Hey |N|: a drop in filter inside the stock airbox is fine... take out the resonator and all the looppady loop pipes which leads into the stock box.. and run ya own pipe from the airbox to the front of the car. That way it looks stock and wont get ya into trouble. I reckon the stockbox should be fine so you wont require any heatshield. And in regards to you pod behind the front bumper.. i dont think thats a good idea.. cause when it rains.. water/vapor will get around the area... and thats a no no... With the drop in filter inside the stockair box and your pipe connection.. when it rains you can open the top cover and allow it to suck from the engine bay.. and when its dry outside.. just put it back on and allow it to such throught the front..

Goodluck and happy DIY ing! :D

K&N filter pannel and a 2.5 inch flexi pipe from star performance in sydney or other shops will do the trick the rubber seal at the bottom of the air box will form a good seal around it.

N: You dont use a panel.. use a POD filter... if you use a panel then you obviously cant open the cover cuase then you will be sucking air striaght into the manifold..
Civic airbox uses a panel filter, so your options maybe
1. try and get a pod inside there then run DIY CAI piping.
2. Get a RAM setup i.e. buy aftermarket aluminium piping from Intake Manifold to filter and get heat shield if u want.
3. Get intake setup from a dc2. and repeat step 1.

Goodluck and may the force be with you |N| :D
