guys what do you think is enough for daily driving a b16a or b18c? like for new drivers would the 16a be sufficient for a p-plater?

i liked to hear opinions dont mind the ragers, budget is never a concern for me can get the money for the mods.

if its going into an ek i personally think b16a is a waste of money....not saying they are useless engines, but upgrading from a 1.6 to 1.6 just seems meaningless for a daily. its not like your going to be driving at high revs alot on the roads.

i think b18c ftw :p lasts longer than b20s just need to source it in 4weeks, would 10k be enough for the whole swap to be done ?

Assuming you have a EK shell (phuck EK go buy a cheapy ED from egay) it should be enough.

go and give bennjamin a Pm and he will do the swap for you :):p

I'm at work and cant think properly at the mo but isnt NSW the same as QLD in regards to no engine conversions for P-platers?

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_06_-_guidelines_for_light_vehicle_modifications_nov_20 07.pdf i think all you need is a engineers cert.

well it says engine performance mods so that be no engine swaps?

yep that means no engine swaps. Anything that requires a modification plate is illegal for P-platers. And for future reference for others, even though EG6's came out with a B16 in japan, because they didn't in Aus it is not a legal replacement engine if you're planning on using that excuse to the DoT when you wanna get rid of your D-series.

Just buy an ek4 and keep saving so when you get off your P's you can throw a better engine in and have money to add mods straight up.

seriously its only a v4 it shouldnt be that bad as turbocharged ones rta... yeh might get the ek4 or dc2r. But like minor mods like i/h/e be allowed mate?

Inline 4 not v4. And yea any mods that dont require a mod plate so I/H/E are fine. And to some extent internal mods as they cant be seen without pulling apart the engine. But if they wanna be assholes they could emissions test it to get an idea if something has been changed. Not to mention a chunkier sound to the engine if you do more agressive cams.

And just because a car doesn't have forced induction doesn't mean it's not fast. Look at 40RGD. 11.41sec all motor little beast.

hey gzm what if the ek came with the mods like previous owner did mod it and i bought it still legal if there were certs for it?

unfortunately nope. The B18 may look similar to a B16 but anyone who knows stuff about cars (i.e. someone that works for the department of transport) is going to take 1 look at it, or even just listen to it for that matter, and say theres something fishy goin on here. Then bam u get stuck with a massive fine and bye bye car.

IMO try and find a decent ek4 and if you're worried about the condition of the engine and spend a bit of the money you were going to spend on the engine conversion on a head rebuild with all new seals and gaskets. Raise the compression while your at it with a thinner gasket if you're after a little bit more power. It sounds expensive but if you go to the right place it's not that bad.
Then get a decent set of headers, intake and exhaust and you wont be disappointed.

Buddy
Just do the conversion man
As long you go and get a blue slip to update the engine number with the rta, it should be fine.
How would the cops know what engine comes out of what, unless the cop is a honda f*g
