When a tinter does the EG Hatch Boot lid, do they typically remove the 'gas lifts' and the plastic housing of the rear wiper?
Thus to allow them to perfectly apply a single layer of film?

So it's normal for a tinted boot lid to look like this? :

This one is a poor effort, the tinter could do more to cover the areas untinted.
Theres no need to tint around the area where the gas struts bolt to the rear hatch glass. If you remove the struts from the rear hatch glass u ll prob realise that ur stripping the threads on plastic caps that the struts screw into on the glass. those plastic caps are garbage, i dont know why honda choose to use plastic when they strip like a bitch if u unbolt it or try to screw it back on.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not quite sure if I understand you.
Are you saying they should be removing the gas shocks and wiring loom before applying the tint? What about replacing those plastic caps?
On H-T, they are saying "a proper tinter removes the spoiler and the gas struts, applies a single sheet then puts it back on".

What im trying to say is... that theres no point tinting around where the struts bolt to the plastic cap on the rear glass it doesnt really stop much sun from getting in and in the end if ur tints fade and u want to change the tints it becomes a real bitch to remove. i circled the plastic cap to show u what part i mean if u dont know what im talking about lol

Theres no offical way of tinting the rear hatch glass, the tinter does it the most conveniant way he can. If your really anal'd about the tinting then u can remove the struts and all the wiring. but in the end u will strip the plastic caps which i circled in the pic causing them to be loose if u remove the struts from the rear glass.
If your so worried, ask around tinting business.

Yeah I get you now. Those plastics caps be too expensive, surely? Even removing them and charging me +=$20 to replace them I'd be happy with.

just thought I'd add in my experience. The tinter in my case did remove the rear wiper housing, but not the struts. As Sir Vtec has said, depends on the tinter.
all those pics are pretty ghetto tint jobs !! but you get what you paid for generally.. if you paid $100.. but if you paid good $$ for the job, take it back and demand they re-apply the film.

x2 i got my whole car done in 3m 20% for 200 and the rear was similar to yours but not that bad round the strut mount. i didn't care tho for 200 and with a really really good film.

It's all good, I took it back and there fixing it up. It was a pro job, so I'm not fussed.
My only question was tinting the rear boot lid. I might put the gas shocks, and the rear wiper so it can have a single layer put down.
