View Full Version : Advice needed; Buying a DC5R

Hi guys, I'm currently on the hunt to buy a DC5R (Finding it hard to find one that's reasonably priced :( seems though sellers nowadays have too much pride (putting ridiculous prices to follow the crowd) and care less about selling the actual car. Taking them a couple of months to realise that no one would actually buy it for the price they think they can sell it for...funny in a way as after a couple of months its the same overpriced cars over & over again --> carsales.

Anyways enough of me complaining, i have a couple of questions;
1.)Is it true that a dc5r is very easy to get stolen? high theft rate also? So is it better to replace the stock alarm once i get it?
2.)What key points should i look out for when im checking the car?
3.)I'm looking for a 2002 model thats done approx 100000kms...would the kms that be a bit too much? how much should i expect to pay?
4.)Would it be good for a daily in terms of comfort, handling, etc...
5.)Anyone here on Ozhonda selling their dc5r??
Thanks

I have never had my car stolen and I have parked in some pretty suss places in Melbourne :p, but an aftermarket alarm is possibly a good idea. Especially as K swaps are getting more popular ;).

2.)What key points should i look out for when im checking the car?

Pay particular attention to the gearbox for the second gear grind, and if you test drive make sure the car is cold because most gearbox probs rear their head when cold.

The bolsters of the Recaros should be a good indication on whether the car has been treated well over its life.

Plenty of melbourne DC5s have been in stacks to be sure to check carefully for accident damage.

3.)I'm looking for a 2002 model thats done approx 100000kms...would the kms that be a bit too much? how much should i expect to pay?

My '01 has 120,000Kms on it and I have had no major problems. The only things I have had done is a front wheel bearing replaced and a secondary oxygen sensor replaced. My car is heavily tracked too. The cars are pretty reliable if maintained pretty well.

19-20k seems a good price for an average 02 with 100k on it. Maybe more.

4.)Would it be good for a daily in terms of comfort, handling, etc...

DC5s are a great daily . Pretty smooth and comfy when stock, and they respond well to light modifications.

Thanks a lot  that helped.
Btw, from what i've heard that dc5r has a lot of cabin noise & bumpy (street/freeway driving for example), is it really that bad?? I havent test driven one yet planning to after new years..
Also, what you said bout 2001/2002 dc5r with approx 100,000 kms going for that much, would it be in good condition tho? That's actually a reasonable price and what i've been looking for...If only i could find one in good condition for that much or maybe a bit less...then i would've bought it yesterday already...LOL.
Thanks again.

Yeh, I've looked in carsales and drive, etc for a while now. I've just joined clubitr but i cant seem to view the for sales area, it still says 'private'.
Thanks for the advice btw

The DC5R is fairly bumpy and a little noisy compared to most stock cars due to the lack of sound deadening and the relatively high stock spring rates. The only way to tell if it is acceptable to you is to test drive.

I think for 20k you would get an average car. Not perfect but certainly not a piece of junk. Although some DC5s seem to be a little highly priced.

Do what i did, check out the Appearance section and stalk members of the forums persuading them to sell.
