i know places here in sydney... not much use to you though....

what exactly do you want done
sand back car, hifil pannels, exterior only and door jams, clear 2.5 - 3.5 k
+engine bay 4-5k
+insides 6k
depends on what paint you choose aswell...
for the clear coat get ceramic clear - its a little more but really good!

use a reputable paint aswell like ppg

in general you get what you pay for, cheap jobs will turn out cheap.. but not to say all affordable jobs are useless, but majority.

yeh the average going rates...
if you do work work yourself like buff back the pannels and take doors bonnet off etc.... get one done for about 1.5k

gota remember paint is about 800 and clear is about 300

Whoa!

That's preety expensive!

I know a place where I can get 4 litres desired metalic paint, 4 litres clear, 20 litres thiners, 4 litres primer for $308 :D Mates rates ofcourse.. But that's the cost price so the actual price isn't much more expensive at all..Or so I have been told!

Keep in mind that I have my spraying license so I'm not just blurting out figures here either as I have seen my fair share of prices!

What kind of paint is that for $800 ? And what kind of clear ?

Cheers

DIY guys!

Let me finish my car off and I will make a DIY for you guys to do your own stuff!!!

It's not rocket science.

Here's my front bar I did just today, only 1 coat of base coat on it!! Still needs 2 more coats, 3 coats of clear, cut back and polish!! All off the gun.

how long did it take you to sand it?

tiksie
17-03-2009, 10:21 AM
About 1 1/2 weeks.

But that includes sanding my car aswell, mirrors, sideskirts etc at about 7-8 hours a day and spraying it with primer, and taping everything up.

That bumper has come up great.

You using a decent air compressor and spray gun?

all good and well to try save some cash and do the prep urself but u really need to be careful doing that, alot of places dont like it and to the naked hand and eye it might seem flat but to a panel beater its probably attrocious!! and really depending on what colour your painting it to how bad ur going to see any kind of dent.
like dont do black if your going to prep it yourself!! the amount of work that went into my car bcuz i wanted it black, lets just say (my bf is a panel beater) im extremely lucky he loves me to eternity and longer (he was certainly not happy about me wanting black, it has to be perfect) otherwise it would have gone another colour
Go around and just get some quotes, find our what brand of paint they use, try stick with ppg, sikkens arent too bad, try keep away from cheap nasty like lesonal
ur quote will depend on what brand of paint they use, ppg is more expensive purely because its better paint!
at the end of the day u get what u pay for!!

All the materials including compressor and gun cost me about $490.

It's a 24 litre 2 hp air compressor!!! So nothing special at all, not even decent LOL, it's half decent I suppose.

It's all in the gun but man, HVLP gravity fed gun.

I just put on the first coat of base coat straight off the gun, it has some shine which is preety awesome for acrylic!

No DIY yet kleo, I am yet to finish the car, I don't want to make a DIY when I'm half done :p
