abit more in the description would help our "net analysis"...

WHAT colour is the smoke ?
What revs (example low or hi) does the smoke come out ?
WHAT has been the cars recent history? ( such as any new mods , any thing replaced , anything...)

Get back to us...

BUT possibly ur car is running rich.

if the smoke was white, then you're burning oil due to your piston rings being gone. but because it's black smoke, it means you're running rich. Try checking your spark plugs, they may be dirty and therefore not producing a strong enough spark to burn all the fuel in the combustion chamber. clean them up and see how you go.

also, if after cleaning the plugs and the smoke goes away, but comes back after a short while, then something else is causing the engine to run rich which in turn makes your plugs dirty. Next possible cause maybe the Oxygen sensor. the sensor may be stuffed sending the wrong signal to the ECU and causing the ECU to keep adding fuel, thinking the engine is running lean, when actually the opposite is happening.

If all else fails, i suggest checking your ECU.

Hope this helps. :)

Well I’m glade to hear back smoke is not the rings

I just got headers and 2” piping high and I’m blowing quite a bit of black smoke now!!!!!!!!

So all I need is a tune-up?

Thx Luke

tune up may help, but carby or efi problems useually cause engine to run rich.

check your o2 sensor is plugged in or working, i have heard that some exhaust places forget to reconnect them. Also check the O2 sensor is in about the same place, different locations can cause a different reading...

When your car is running rich dose it allso use a bit of oil to?

o2 sensor is a little plug like thing sticking off the exhaust.

If its not plugged in or not working properly it will make you car run rich. It was designed to lean out your fuel for better economy.

White smoke does not always mean your burning oil. Its usually condensation from water in the morning in your exhaust, unless your always blowing white smoke all the time then start getting worried.
But black smoke also could mean your burning oil, if its bluish then your rings have gone all the way..... What's it smell like? if it smells like fuel than its running rich, if its foul smelling your prob burning oil.
Does it chew up your oil? do you need to top it up often? If so could mean your piston rings are on the way out. or valve stems are hardening.

Try getting something like wynns stop smoke it helps abit and in very small cases can get rid of the thing (i've never been able to get rid of it)

You can also try running a higher viscosity oil like a 20-50w or 20-60w? (not sure about the 20-60w depends on your engine) ALso stop running synethic as it will burn/seep thru the pistons even faster. Penrite have a decent range of those things.

Also just check your timing is correct and your plugs aren't fouled up.

Smoke isn't that easy to diagnoise and sometimes its all of the above and then the engine goes.....

I know cos i had to rebuild an engine that had these probs before.

It cost me lots of bikkies

I didn't blow smoke before my mod’s so I'm quite sure its not the rings (I hope)

Having only done 95K with servicing and all that

I uses only a very small amount
DynoDave told me that yea cars that run rich also burn a bit of oil to
So the min I get some cash its off for Dyno tuning
If there’s anything wrong then I'm sure they will pick it up
As for the 02 sensor, I found that some time ago
Gave it a clear but didn't help any

I would have thought connecting the 02 sensor to the bottom pipe where all the pipes turn into one would have given better economy
Unlike how its only connected to one pipe so its only reading one cylinder?

Thx Luke
