Hi guys, my mother in law has a 2007 FD done around 4000kms. When i checked her engine oil 2 weeks ago, it was running low. Just wandering which engine oil do you guys recommend? Im also surprised how much engine oil the car has consumed in such a short period of time! She must've been vtec-ing it alot when she buys groceries.

i don think it's a good idea to add aftermarket oil when the engine's only done only 4000kms, cause it'll mix with the engine oil that came with your car.. just bring it to ur honda service dept to add some genuine honda oil and has the car been to first service?

Post 5,000kms...

Go Royal Purple / Neo Synthetics & K&N or equivilant synthetic filter...Do it right from the start! xD

It's all right to mix it. Also, the Honda oil sold at dealers in Australia is different to the oil that comes in the car from the factory anyway.

Yeah, that's no problem. Only thing is you are adding a cheap regular oil to an expensive high performing oil. It's like topping up your glass of Grange with cask wine. You can still drink it, but it won't taste as good as before. ehheheh.

spoke to Option Fans (jap magazine) representative today and he recommends 5W40 for street use and 10W40 - 10W50 for spirited driving (refering to jdm K20A) and only use 100% synthetic oil.

LOL @ Topping up a glass of Penfolds Grange with Cask Wine. Haha.

Btw, Mr. aaronng do you know if its still Caltex that refines the Australian "OEM" FEO oil? I haven't heard anything over a year and a half, might have changed.

I'm not to sure for what km's/Running condition engine he was talking about but a 10w50 for a K20A? Very very high viscosity oil for that type of engine. 20 year old commodores with 400,000kms barely use that... Highest I personally would use in a K20A for even track use would be a Full Synthetic 10w40. If the car has less than ~120,000kms i would probebly even prefer a 5w30/10w30...

At the moment i'm using 0w-40 thats with mainly street use but with occasional track use. Engine seems quite happen to be using it although thats with the R18.

he was toking bout a brand new K20A engine and the info based on J's racing. i was thinkin wat u were thinkin too, but becoz K20A (not audm K20z2 or usdm k20z3) is such a high rpm engine, u'll need that kinda viscosity oil to protect the engine while on the race track. and thats what they use in the J's racing FD2
