This has been bothering me for a freaking long time....

there is this time on a drag strip with my Stock civic, i did a 14.6sec in my car with Falken Semi's....and that is my only best ever launch in my whole life and i forgot how the hell i did that....normally is around 14.9sec....

the case is...
i look at the techno...around 6k rpm...i don't know how the hell i release the clutch and the tyre just grip on the ground and pull the car with it, with very very little wheel spin, ermm..actually i can't feel any wheel spin at all...the RPM stays exactly at 6k rpm when the whole car pull away...

does anybody have a theory of giving a very good launch and when you say at that RPM, is there any reason behind it or you just listen to what other people said to you?...how do you really manage the clutch?...std or racing clutch?...what kinda clutch setting you are talking?...

now..i don't know what i'm talking..hahahaha...hope you guys know...

Your either slipping the clutch too much (or your clutch is shot), or your LSD is working fine and launching like a jungle cat?

dudes, lets not go into a debate about his car/time.

i also would like to know how to launch properly.. if u ran slicks its bascally hold the rev's at 7000 and drop the clutch... semi's are less forgiving. i feel no burnout shouldbe fine, but thatss all the info i can say..

experienced ppls?

dude, i've drive a ITR on a drag stip before...i got 14.09sec, just exhaust and semi's....cam phase and ecu..tats all..and that owner drove a 13.99...so..i don't know what the hell happen..ITR stock suppose to be around 14's low...depends on is it a GOOD engine or NOT...haha..

back to the point..is there any possible way to explain a good launch?...

my mate jimmy launch his vtir civic in vtec (6000rpm)with no wheel spin. the car use to just grip and rip. he says its alot to do with how you release the clutch.

the way i see it if u dropp the clutch too fast den u get wheel spins so u gotta feed the clutch... understand??? relase slowly.. and get use to it den u'll b able to control how fast to drop it wdi out spin...

Release slowly? man, if you do that, you will lose by 1-2 car length....there is a proper technique for launch but nobody seems to teach em' out...

well i guess tyres makes a big diff in the launch if you ask me

Low power car doesn't really do good with Full slicks, you might end up slower...if you have a 300hp civic or turbo charged it, i think slicks you might do well...correct me if i'm wrong...thank you

in my under powered and under gripped civic Si - stock clutch -

MY recipe for success is ....

*handbrake up*
*dial in about 3,500 rpms.
*slowly slip clutch until the front wheels start to pull the car forward - JUST as it does- keep this "level"*
*on the word go slip off the clutch and floor the accelerator ...and then let go of handbrake all in a split second :)*

woot indeed.

But i only do that until the signed legal speed :)

The handbrake is up to stop the car from moving...
Because he releases the clutch enough for it to grip, if the handbreak wasn't up, the car would just launch... but not to the extent that he wants it to

when i had my 16a i launch in vtec cos there is no power down low. ive jumped most cars in a race except 4wd

ohh...ehh...but i heard that if will use your clutch more and increase the stress on your clutch and may result in clutch slip...am i rite?...i dono wor...i don't do it that way....hahaha...it seems to have the kick, but the time was no good...feel fast but going slow...or may b i'm a SHIT driver..hahahaha....opps...damn...i am one...sad...

actually it's been very very tricky between Road surface and Drag strip...you cant seem to launch at the RPM as you use to on street...either is higher or lower..hahaha..

actually, i launch ones at 7400rpm...hahaha...guess what...the car nearly go sideways...but instant launch...Zoom..haha..was on drag stip, and playing around with Slicks..hahaha...but slicks are no fun...but the lauch was nice..hahaha...and burning those tyres...oh yea...

When launching...you can rev to whatever rpm BUT "vtec" will not be engaged until the engine puts the power to the ground(as the vtec lobe is not engaged in neutral)...so really the best way is to keep rpm's below the vtec interchange rpm band...

i seen jimmeh do it. getting just a little spin is ok. u dont want ur 16 to bog down cos its piss dead at low rpm. when my car still had the vti motor i launch the car from 6500k and to this day i havent been beaten off the line. with the new motor i yes but not with the d16y8. yes it messes up ur clutch but so what.

wow..soo many comment....anyone want to give a go with my car?..hehe...i think alot of people will have a great time beating my car while launching...because i'm the worst there'll ever be....hahaha...

Correct, but i think the main purpose of using the handbrake is to semi lauch the car into a lauching position. by preset your vehicle to "lauch mode" as in lifting the front manually. This would stop the car rocking on luach reducing wheel spin.

Well I launch between 7500-8500in my civic.. I dont have a hand brake as such I have a Launch Brake.. Its basically a Hand brake lever that sticks up beside the Gear lever that doesnt have a locking mech in it.. I hold the rear brakes on to stop the car from moving and so it starts to load the Driveshafts then on my last light before the Green I let the clutch and launch brake go give it the rest of the throttle.. I spin first like anything then smack 2nd before the shift light comes on...
I run my RT's between 0.01-0.1 away from perfect and run 1.55-1.65 60fts all day..

make it simple 2 ways to launch a civic well it has to be type r or VTIR.
Hold it at about 5-6 grand.. and when they say goooo you drop that clutch... wheels will spin, ur tacho will flutter around red line, and then as SOON as it stops to flutter it will go straight to redline, so as this happens u have to change (hard one to learn) or u canhold ur revs about 3-4k and then slip the cluth as u launch.... but plz don't rev rev rev ur car, hold the revs at 4k dun just rev up and down...
