Multiple Number Plates Australia Wide?

hey guys/girls...
I was at Summernats down in Canberra on Saturday and a wierd thing happened...
the ONLY Honda i saw AT ALL was a Silver S2000, which had EXACTLY the same number plates as me (VTECN) exept he was from Victoria...
I thought it was pretty kool lol and i was really stunned...
When i told my mate, he was POSITIVE that only ONE person may have the certain plates Australia wide...
Is this true? Im not sure as ive never seen the same plate twice...

I know u cant have the same one state wide lol but its a little strange you could have the same plate in other states...
from memory his one was silver OR white with black writing and mines white with black writing and its not overly noticable its from vic as the style is the same just says "VIC" in small letters vertically on the left, same as mine (exept "NSW". so technically if he had his on a maroon civic, or i had mine on a silver s2k, we could get eachother in trouble? i mean it sounds a little rediculous but it could happen? i was about to buy an s2000 lol

Why is it strange? Each of the States have their local road authorities. :o

If anything, there should be a lot more examples of what you have seen.

LOL i explained why i thort it was strange? :p just that the style and everything looked exactly the same as mine? and if you only see it at a quick glance, u might not notice that it says VIC, as its written small and in the same place as mine

When you buy a custom number plate you buy the rights to it in your own relivent state.

Whats trippy was a few years back i went to the carpark, tried to unlock the door to what i thought was my parents car, same model, colour and plates and couldn't get in because it wasn't ours cos it was registered it VIC. And it was state issue plates too

I've seen heaps of cars with the same plates but different state. There's an S15 in SA and an S15 in NSW with the plates "S15", as well as a Beema here with ONDDOLE and one in NSW with ONDDOLE :p

When we moved from NSW to VIC, we had the same number plates custom made, even down to the same colour. Only difference was the "VIC" imprint and the font was slightly thinner. So yes, you can have the same plate across different states.

lol yeahh it was good, it was my first time... it was a good day but not really my scene... im more into jap cars as u would imagine but i like the V8s too as my mates drive them... but by the end of it, it was annoying because there was drunk bogans EVERYWHERE just yelling at people to do burn outs or get their **** out LOL

hypothetically speaking i wonder if someone in sydney or melb had my plates, on a white eg civic and i covered up the W.A on the numberplate and i went through a bunch of speed camera's in syd or melb if the other driver would get the fines.

well depends on if they are state issue plates or not because state issue plates are distinctive from state to state, even so camera fines have pictures on them so i'm sure they would cross reference the vehicle and what are the chances of having the same plates, same car and colour?

In my hypothetical example i said same car and colour. Obviously if it was a different car then fine. Also the reason why i said "covered up the W.A on the numberplate"
