Hi All,

First off sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find anything about it.

I currently drive a 2002 Honda Civic Vi 5 door hatch. I want to go a sort of JDM look with the car and I'm going to start with wheels and suspension.

I'm in the process of organising some wheels, tyres and coilovers for it but I have a couple of questions.

I'm going to order a set of 18" White Buddy Club P1 Racing SF to go under it. I'm looking at 18" x 7.5" +42

http://karsjdm.com/catalog/images/P1%20Racing%20SF%20White.jpg

Will this offset work well when I wrap the rims in a set of Nexen N3000 215/40/18? The main reason I'm looking at these is because the comply with the queensland regulations with overall rolling diameter and load rating. I am open to other options on tyres but I need to keep to under 630mm rolling diameter and Load Index of 88 or better.

I'll also be fitting a set of Rays locking wheel nuts which are 1.5mm thread Long Type annodized red in colour.

The coil overs, I made my decision in regards to these based off a really good mate of mine as he is running these in his Mitsubishi EVO 6.5. I'm looking at the BC BR coilovers but these are for the EP3 2000 on but I'm not sure if they will fit. Does anyone know if these will fit into my car??

To ask again, My questions where will those tyres work well with the rims I've selected and Secondly will the EP3 Coilovers go into my 2002 Vi Civic 5 Door Hatch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I hope to order these in the coming weeks.

Cheers
Dion

buddyclub wheels are nice... i got a set of 18x7.5J P1 SF 5/114.3 Offset42+ on my FD civic... and so you need to compare your stock tyres and wheels to your buddyclub rims and to what size of new tyres u gonna get.. check out this website http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Thanks for that. I had seen that elsewhere on the forum here and I have checked it out.

Its good and all to match the rolling diameter between the two wheels but there are rules in regards to the rim size.

What size is your standard rim? Chances are you can only go roughly 2 inchs larger then that before it becomes a legal problem (2 inches is only a rough estimate, theres an actually percentage value i believe).

Performance wise, are 18's going to be good performance? i doubt it. Depending on your tyre profile it may be too large. Best to go for something slightly smaller, which has a more suited tyre side wall for your application, which also means you'll save weight by getting smaller wheels.

Nexen tyres? ...... not too keen on them. Theres plenty of other users on this forum that are getting good results, on both street and track, from bridgestone and toyo tyres. Best look into those before you make your final decision.

BC Coilovers... Are they actually buddy club? don't look like it too me. I'd save some money and get real Buddy Club coilovers or another proven brand from one of the traders on here. Are you looking for performance or looks? cause alot of coilovers give quite a rough ride and if you want to keep your ride nice and smooth then a different combination might be a good idea.

Thanks for the reply.

Queensland regulations state that you can go 15mm over sized or 26mm undersized in rolling diameter from the standard tyre size as nominated on the tyre placard. Yes these rims and tyres will be oversized but as it's only basically a daily driven car I'm not to worried that the tyres will be oversized. This car is by no means a race car and nor will it ever it see the track so I'm not to bothered about the tyre size. My main issues are to keep the size correct whilst keeping the load rating required to keep it all legal.

The coil overs, I have read a lot of really good reports on these coil overs. The EVO guys are saying that these out perform the Teins so that is one reason I'm looking at them. I thought there was actually a thread on here somewhere which also gave the opinion but I may be wrong.

Tyres, I am open to tyre opinions. I do a lot of highway km's in my car so i'm chasing something that is fairly quiet and gives a good combination of wear and performance. I do however need to be index load 88 or better hence why I was looking at the 215/40/18 however I would love to go 215/35/18 but they fall short on the load rating.

This is as stated on the QLD department of transport website (link below) refer to page 11.

A real quick chop a mate did for me. This is roughly what it should look like when it's done. I'm really liking it

well first off im not going to comment on the tyres as im not really well enlightend with rims and tyres.

as for the coilovers id recommend them as i run them in my car. B.C AKA bor chan is not a replica of buddy club jasongilholme. they are a taiwan brand and really nice for their price. DVSCOUPE make sure you check if your rear suspension sits on a fork or eye ball there is a chance they coilovers pitured above might not fit your car in the first place (correct me if im wrong) easiest way to find out is check their webpage.
some considerations when buying coilovers should be
Ride Height Adjustability<with bc coilovers they are full thread so lowering your car to the max wont screw up your damper
Damper Adjustability<32 setting damper, for street use 8 clicks from soft to hard should feel like oem shocks. running mine on 16 fronts 12 rear.
Spring Rate<cant really give the exact figures from memory but they are really good for the price of those coilovers. (did research before purchase)
Ride Comfort<two thumbs up (depends on user setting for dampers)
Handling<their coilovers mate handlin is greatly improved along with steerin response

i had a little drama with the coilovers, where they wouldnt fit my oem LCA so i had to grind the LCA to make it fit (does not apply to certain honda models) but if your running aftermarket LCA's you wouldnt encounter this problem.

Thanks for the comment. The rims where all balanced but not fitted as I was going to wait till the coil overs arrived but I couldn't wait so I threw them on.

As it has turned out the wrong coil overs arrived so I'm trying to sort that out at the moment as they sent EP3/SI coil overs

haha thanks dude.

After doing some check measuring the EP3 coil overs will go into the EU civic with some minor mods. The workshop I deal with reckon it will take about an hour including the slight modifications to install. They go in on Saturday :D

It will be gettng about a 3.5 inch drop, does anyone know where I can get some adjustable LCA for the EU civic?

Coil overs have impressed me so far, they can be set to have it feel like stock or nice and hard. I've got it set about in the middle at the moment

5 and a 1/2 in drop? wouldn't that be tucking the rims?

dvscoupe
15-02-2009, 01:01 AM
I could be wrong about the height but it has dropped a long way as this model factory has massive ground clearance.

vinnY
15-02-2009, 01:07 AM
only looks like 2" to me, maybe 2.5"
5.5" is a whopping 140mm(well, almost) so your car would be about the height of an f1 car(within mm of kissing the road)

dvscoupe
15-02-2009, 01:14 AM
I can tell you it's well over 2 - 2.5" as it had over that of air in the wheel arch before and it's now tucking tyre all round. Either way I'm really happy with it

Looking good now.
Offset is good
height is sensible
rims suit the car

Ok the Civic went in and got a 4 wheel alignment today. It was pretty nasty

Before Adjustment....
Left rear camber = -2.90 degrees
Right rear camber = -2.89 degrees
Left rear toe = +4.6mm
Right rear toe = +2.3mm

Left front camber = -2.16 degrees
Right front camber = -1.88 degrees
Left front toe = +13.1mm
Right front toe = +8.4mm

Left front castor = +1.70 degrees
Right front castor = +2.03 degrees

After doing an hours work on the car the setup was as follows :D

After Adjustment....
Left rear camber = -2.84 degrees
Right rear camber = -2.87 degrees
Left rear toe = +1.5mm
Right rear toe = +1.5mm

Left front camber = -0.75 degrees
Right front camber = -0.55 degrees
Left front toe = +1.1mm
Right front toe = +1.1mm

Left front castor = +1.80 degrees
Right front castor = +1.88 degrees

This setup seems to work really well at this stage. :D :D :D
