View Full Version : DC5r Price

looking at buying a dc5r and i think alot of them are overpriced. redbook states that the Private Price Guide $19,000 - $21,400 for 60000km - 110000km for a 02 model. thats sounds good for me as it is in my price range but i can not seem to find anything in that range. in fact everything is over that price with even more kms on the clock. i find this ridiculous. is this redbooks fault or do people just love their dc5r's to much to give them away around the 20k mark?

People overprice their Hondas all the time.
Expect a dc5r to be anywhere from low 20s to high 20s.

agreed what Q Ball said....
normally you can get ones that are around 60,000kms - 80,000kms for around 25 - 27k on carsales

Redbook doesn't account for social implications.

Shouldnt follow redbook with regards to prices. Market value is never right! They dont take account the car's soul =]

Redbook is a guide.
Should be used to give you an indication as to how much you should be pricing it as a minimum - not to be used as gospel.
Its good if you have no clue.
But use this figure in conjunction to whats out in the market already.

also do you think going through a dealer to get one or private sale would be the best bet?
dtzeng

Dealerships in most cases are more expensive i rckn. Private sales you can bargain like its hawt.
Its all about preference. Either way. Ask if you can do an RACV inspection before you buy. Its cheap and will tell you the history about the car in case seller is a liar.

DC5R is become rare and most of ppl pick it over DC5S, so don't suprise if you see most of them overprice, I sold my DC5R one yrs ago as 28k which just hits 34000km, and I think the price just ok to me.
vinnie226

thats pritty cheap compared to the ones on sale today
ill give them another 6 mounths or so and hopefully then they have dropped a bit in price and the right one comes up for sale.

Redbook's reseach on car prices are mostly based on the "written price" on the transfer papers submitted to the road authorities and just like a majority of people out here, we always under declare the value of the car so there is less transfer fees to pay.

Im in the same position as you, and all i can say is; they ARE overpriced hence that is why none of them are selling (especially the ones on carsales). Just wait it out a bit, sellers will wake up to reality sooner or later...when they find their car not selling even after a few months on the market...all you can do is "LOL..."
If you search other 2nd hand cars-->RX8,Audi TT that are of later model and similar kms are actually cheaper than older dc5r with higher kms on carsales. Just a heads up.

Evo 7's, STi's, Supra's, R33 GTR's, Audi S3's (OH man i would LOVE one of those), Audi A4 turbo Quattro... the list goes on.
But still... even as I list all the cars above, there is something that I LOVE about my DC5r... it might be the fact that it is way understated, and gives a fair few cars a run for there money, can take the twisties just as good (If not better) then most of the cars above, the aftermarket parts available are almost endless (and relatively cheap compared to the above) or just that at my point in life its the perfect car... its quick, low, bumpy, sporty, 2 door and just looks so damn good.

Dude, no one was undermining the dc5r (Why would I do that, I'm currently looking to buy one myself), I was only putting up an alternative that are available in the market and close to the price range.
But I agree with you that a dc5r has its own appeal, however some if not most are overpriced by sellers :(

Yeah i know no one was undermining the DC5R (This is a Honda forum after all)... but i was just saying that there is something "special" about them, and once you own/drive one on a regular basis, you'll understand why some people are going to put such a premium on them... that and Honda does have a very good name for its self in Australia.
But yes, SOME are grossly over priced, but just haggle with the seller, and once they have had the car on the market for a while they'll be sure to sell.

Honda do have a higher resale value than most other car makers in general. So sometimes it's 'overpriced' for reason as most of them do sell after all.

i understand that there are good cars if not better than the dc5r on the market for around the same price. but since i get ny p plates soon i am restricted from driving alot of cars, they include turbo and rotary engines. so i think a dc5r whould be the best bet for me if i am looking to spend that much money.

as some others have suggested try some dealerships..
yes they do inflate their prices thats because they generally offer a 12 month warranty on it - but yea i was with a friend looking for dc5rs and he actually got one from a dealership for the same price as the private market was offering - and 24 months extended factory warranty too..

All i have to say is DC5R very unique car and no other car has as sexy as shape as they do. Also its a Honda and they keep there value alot better then say a Nissan or Toyota so expect to pay a bit higher. Also honda engines are quality and all the younger people want them as its the best P plate car. On top of that they are becoming more rare as u see with the DC2R they are sitting close to the 20k and they are older so u have to remember its top of the line DC5 besides the S, on a quick note when you have a DC5R ull no why they sell for so much hell i thought they would sell for more as they are a TYPE R!

How can you guys say they are overpriced? Obviously people are paying good money for them or else sellers wouldnt be able to get anything near what they want for them, so it seems they are priced just fine.
Ive been through 5 second hand cars...if you get one for redbook price you are doing very very well for yourself.

that silver one selling for $19500 with 103,000kms i was just reading about it on carsales, i dont think this guy is genuine. he doesn't no anything about his so called regretfull sale. it says it is a 5 seater, has a 1.8L engine and 5 speed manual. he has put all of the dc2r options on it i think (dont no much about dc2r). if he really wanted to sell this car i would think he would put a few more pics up and describe his car a bit better than just saying priced for quick sale. the one thing about this car that i like is the number plates 02TYPR. it just doesn't seem right to me.

It's probably a late 01 model. Carsales (gets its data from Redbook) doesn't differentiate between the 2. So it assumes the 01 ITR is the DC2

IL put my 2 cents in as i have owned a dc5r and a rx8..
cars are worth what people are willing to pay and the dc5r will always hold more value and sellers wont give them away as they aren't made anymore! in my opinion the reasons are covered in this thread : car being a honda, style etc
i only lost 2k on my dc5r and put over 30,000kms in a 2 year period.. the rx8 on the other hand lost me 10k in 18 months and i covered 20,000kms.. it isnt the best car to try and drive everyday let me say!
i basically sold the rx8 and for the same price i picked up a lower kms mps6, which im now selling to purchase a dc5s.. ! :honda:
you can get a dc5r with the same kms for the same price as a dc5s, its called supply and demand !

Thats what i thought at first, but before new years i already called him up and he said that its sold as buyer already put a deposit down but the buyer is still organising finance (from bank maybe...)but just a couple of days ago I called again and he told me to wait as he's still waiting for the same buyer to organise the finance, hence its still on the market if you can pay the full amount straight away...I'm gonna wait till mid of this month and if it is still on sale i'll go check the car.
Give him a call if you're interested...as far as the advertisement goes, it does look too plain.
