I did a search before posting this, and found a thread that had a last reply
in 2003. So thought i wouldn't bump it up and start a new one.
Recently bought a dc2R, and running 12.5L per 100kms.
Running around 320km before light comes on using Shell V-power..

Fuel consumption feels pretty damn high! Or is it just me?
Not vtecing all day longg too

how long did u have the car?

is that your first tank you have used?

ive had my car since new and have never gotta above 400kms per tank unless im driving on the freeway.

Usually my mileage hovers around 350

even vtecing often i get 400km from the 43 litres... once the fuel light comes on i push to 440 or 460km before pulling into a servo...

but i have a B20VTEC with PowerFC... not stock.

all youi guys can laugh at me and say what u want.......

i bought my dc2r car stock standard with pod filter and canon on stock exhaust.....

out of the stock 50litre tank from full untill the light comes on at least 500km's most of the times 550km's this is driving every day to work and back, with at least 2 - 3 hard vtec runs every day and the weekend running around cruzing/thrashing.......

then i went with avo turbo kit, although it wasnt running right and eventually making 180kw i still had very similar fuel consumption 500km's to a tank same style of dring as above.........

now the car is currently running a custome turbo kit and making 239kw and driven in the same style and manner as before and still get 480-500km's per tank before the light comes on...........

i would go to honda buy the following and change them, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and leads, have a mechanic to valve/tappet clearences adjusted.

how many kms on ur car????

Aounrd 350-370 on daily city and back drive o.O stop n GO!

tinkerbell
08-01-2009, 01:06 PM
on a simialr note, i got 620km on a trip to melbourne, but that was with me "trying" to drive as economical as possible...

lots of short trips make fuel economy suffer badly!

69k kms... babied and serviced to within an inch of its life... everything mentioned has been done recently...

oh well... plus... im quite certain my tank only takes 40 litres?

that may be the problem.....too much babying......lol....jokes,

dc2 is definately a 50litre tank, and once the light comes on u have 8 litres.........hence if u fill up as soon as u see the light ur only using 42litres...........

Zilli

aaaaaaahhhhhhhh LOL

i try not to let it get to the light really, and when it gets there i fill up! :-)

It gets babied in terms of maintenance :-)

I think the way i drive when just cruising is the issue... a lot of people say shift below 3k etc... i find that the car isnt very smooth to drive under those revs, so i strethc it out to 3500-4500 before i shift with small throttle openings...

I dunno maybe

my dc5S does 450- 480km

thats with driving like a grandma (although i seen grandma's flog there cars more than mine off the lights)

in all seriousness im happy the fuel price went down.. frankly i dont worry about milage / economy anymore hahah

but when i did i was getting between 420 - 480 easily.. and 500+ on longer highway trips..

but yea those 5min trips to the station, shops, video store, friends house etc = FTL..

edit - it was about 8.5-10.5km/100km - totally stock dc2r

Wow, really gotta check it ay haha.
I'll try again next week and see what km's i get.
However, in those 320km, majority was stop and go. and lots of short trips

stop using VTEC!

on a serious note, my fn2r was doing 500-550! with a few hits during the week...

how many km do you get per 43 litres?

INVSBL

can i just say it would be smarter to let ur car get closer to empty and fill less, ull be pulling less weight, it may be minimal but its still a difference.

thats coming from some1 who gets 650-700 out of 40 liters :p

You are spot on.

Those that say shifting below 3k is better for economy are incorrect.

Efficiency is determined by load and throttle position.

Shifting below 3k and having WOT to get the revs up would actually chew more fuel.

As you said - stretch it out with small throttle so the motor has more momentum to keep spinning.

In saying that - I average between 400 - 500 k's per tank depending on driving style. And my fuel light doesnt work... lol

Always used bp ultimate

usually get about 450, thats when i'll hit the fuel light (well, i've actually only had the fuel light come on once since owning my dc2r

but i'll be planning on turboing it once i get off my P's which wont be too long away..

dc5R, full tank hit the fuel light around 550km w/ VTEC once or twice a fortnight

always fill with BP ultimate

maybe check your tire pressures?
get some light weight wheels?

i get about 500 per tank.. but thats in a vtir, with vtec'ing about 30% of the time.

i was planning on doing internals but reading your thread, i thinking of going stock aswell maybe pushing a max of 13 - 14psi?, and low about 7 -8

My engine also just clicked over 100,XXX so it still is fairly fresh.

Expect some PMs when i start building if i have any querires :D

bring the pm's along........but i would stick to a max of 10psi on pump fuel with stock dc2r................

420-440kms city/everyday driving (droppin the hammer now and then), 600kms+ cruising up/down the coast. I switch between Vpower and Ultimate, i find the Vpower blows more smoke due to the lubricants in it (better for your engine), and Ultimate burns cleaner and slightly more kms...

Ha! You guys need to be softer on the throttle for day to day driving.
I could shift alot higher then alot of you guys but end of day because you're letting more air in more fuel needs to be used.

This was from my last tank, this was with thrashing the car abit aswell.

if u think that you are using too much fuel
maybe its time to get another car

330 is pretty bad for the teg...dc2r or not.

Your obviously running pretty rich mixtures. Might pay to have the car given a close look by a mechanic.

Pull out the spark plugs have a look.....check for leaks in the exhaust? oxygen sensor have that checked....etc etc

I get around 550-600 from a tank, mixed city/fwy from DC5 A/T.
Managed 700+ on freeways to 12 apostles, apollo bay, other places and back the other day.
also make sure the oil you use is not too thick, and tire pressure is good, 37-38psi all round for me..

recently changed to iridium spark plugs and saw an improvement in consumption and much smoother revs throughout the rev range.
I find taking off reasonably fast doesn't contribute much to fuel consumption as long as you dont brake hard too often (unless you have to that is).

DC5s should be getting 8L/100kms mixed driving as claimed by Honda. And you shouldnt have to drive like a grandma.. LoL

Efficiency is determined by fuel in vs energy out, not load and throttle position. Revving an engine higher is going to waste more energy through friction. Air pumping losses are minimised at full-throttle.

Accelerating and decelerating slowly, and maintaining momentum are key ideas to maximum fuel efficiency. When it comes to small capacity 4cyl engines however, sometimes keeping the revs down simply isn't an option, which fuels the illusion.

I get 500-600km from 50L.

You are right about fuel vs energy, however load and throttle position DO affects this. There is obviously a balance between too high revs and too low revs that yields the optimum rev range for fuel consumption with out over reving and also bogging down.

My point was to destroy the common misconception that simply changing at a lower rev reduces fuel consumption. - You said so yourself in your final sentence.

When do you guys notice your fuel light come on?
I think mine comes on at 38L. I would've thought this is a tad bit early for a 50L tank. At least 40L-42L?

Geez.. All this time I thought the dc2r had a tiny tank. 50L is pretty decent.
