Hi guys,

The other day I went to start my car and it wouldn't start.

Turn the key, the lights come on dimly, hud lights sort of flash like they're struggling for power. When I turned the key I hear a click but no attempt to start the motor is made.

Tried jump starting it, the lights and windows work as normal, when I turned the key the engine tries to start with two... I dunno, two 'revs'. The second a lot weaker than the first. Making sounds like it has no power. That's WITH a jump.

It's automatic/tiptronic btw.

This morning my Dad pulled out the starter motor, it all looked fine there. Then we got to the over-run clutch. We didn't pull it apart from the solenoid.

Basically from this print out my Dad has if you hold the over-run clutch from the gears after it's separated from the solenoid, it should turn one way smoothly and not at all the other way.

We didn't take it apart from the solenoid because you can hold the gears in place with a screwdriver just fine (without damaging the gears).

The thing doesn't turn one way, that's fine, but it didn't seem to be turning the other way smoothly at all, seemed pretty jammed.

Any ideas guys? Anyone know what a new starter motor would cost? Or even just the over-run clutch?

It's a Mistuba atm.

Thanks for reading.

BASICALLY:

How much does a new starter motor cost? Or a new over-run clutch?

Crisis averted. Battery problem and jumper cable problem.

PS: carry around HEAVY duty jumper leads.

PSS: DON'T ATTEMPT TO TAKE THE STARTER MOTOR OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY INTENTION OF PUTTING IT BACK IN... unless you ****ING have to. fffffffffffffffffffff****!

if you want to know for sure if its the started motor, take a small peice of wood or a rock around the size of your hand and give it a few hits but not like iron man hits, and then try to kick it over, if it does then your started motor is buggered!
