I want to paint the interior of my ek. I have black vinyl and plastic paint which is fine but i can't find a cream vinyl & plastic paint. I though this colour would be common. I've looked in the usual supercheap, autobahn, sprints repco but still nothing. What i would like to know is would i have to get it custom mixed from an automotive paint shop or can i just use any paint i.e like an exterior providing i use a plastic primmer? thanx in advance.

I've never seen cream. have you already painted some of the vinyl with the black? i only ask because i have NEVER seen this done and look any good. may just be the people's in-experience or impatience though. but as far as cream goes.. don't know, never seen it. i'm doing some shopping for parts on the weekend so i'l keep an eye out for you.

Hey Mel I used white vinyl spray on my last car interior (A,B & C pillars plus dash parts) and found it to be better than paint as it covers textured plastics with fine lines without creating puddles and general mess. It drys much faster and leaves a matt/satin finish, but after adding a clear coat to give some shine I never had to respray as it didn't mark or chip easily.
Personally I wouldn't use it on parts which are regularly touched or rubbed as it will begin to look real tacky.

I've actually used vinyl plastic and normal rattle cans... both worked out normal for me...I've used matt finish and gloss, no troubles here... the fine lines can still be seen and there weren't puddles... just a few light coats at a time... and with a clear coat, not sure how it'd turn out, but I guess you'd have to use wet & dry 2000 to sand it smooth...

cheers for that. i kinda like the textured look of the plastic rather than the smooth surface but i'll have another browse tomorrow for the paint as im hoping to do some this weekend.

I just bought mine from Repco or similar store but don't recall seeing much variety of colours in vinyl spray in stock. Ask to see the catalogue and they may be able to order it for you.

lol that's ok thanks for doing that. i found one in supercheap which was "Heritage Cream" and it said it's for exterior & interior so i tried that. I used a plastic primer before hand, then used that paint and put a top coat. i just did the centre console and it looks ok. thanks again though :)

i always use plastic primer whenever i'm spraying plastic parts (sprayed a few things in my del sol).
I spose once you use plastic primer you can use whatever paint you want after that (enamel etc) and it should stick quite well to the primer.
Should end up with a stronger finish as well as you've primered the plastic before hand.
and yes, you still get the texture of the plastic through the primer + paint coats.

yes i painted some parts on the weekend and it looks aite. i definitely used plastic primer. just have wait and see in the long run if it cracks or not. it should be ok as i did light coats/layers.
