Hey guys,
I got a set of 8000k HID's a month or two ago and I have noticed that they aren't really blue, seems they are almost pure white. My friend said they need to have been on for 5 hours for the colour to set in but it's been over that and still no change. I have seen photos of 8000k and those have a noticeable blue tinge, but nothing on my side. Have I just been given the wrong bulbs (although there is a little rubber tag attached saying 8000k) or do I just need to keep waiting for the colour to kick in?

let me explain a few things
a. any colour other than white is illegal. that means that your precious blue tinged lights are illegal.
b. the higher the number does not equal brighter
the brightest colour temp is about 6500k

lolwuut, its his decision what he prefers. HIDs are supposely already illegal so doesn't matter in that sense.
Neway, a picture would tell a thousands words so show us a pic :)
Heres one of a comparison of 6000k and 8000k:

Is it at least bluer than the one on the left??

This was when I had MTEC 8000k HID's
8000k HID's are useless in the rain, so I went standard lights.

edi-no-son ur sadly mistaken when you state hids are illegal. after market HIDs are illegal. most cars now a days come with hids and not to mention Jspec teggys have hids. the reason they are illegal is because most head light casings are not made for HID lights so they disperse everywhere making it a road hazard to on comming cars or cars ahead. now taking a teggy for example with a after market HID installed light dispersion is actually focused due to the magnetic head lights whereas in comparison to lets say an Civic EG.
as for the main issue. id say 8000k lights dont always give a blue lighting, tends to look more whiteish than blue. take a snap shot of your lights or check them during the day time to see if you can see a blue tinge thats the best way to check. but up close 8000k/10000k after heating up should look more white and blue at close range. 3000k and 6000k have a more noticeble color.
hope this helps

HID's are illegal for ANY car that did not come with them factory standard, in Australia they need washers and an auto-levelling system in order to be up to legal standards.
The higher K you go the bluer the light gets. I'd suggest 6000k as a basic white light, any higher it gets bluer, any lower and it starts to look more yellow.

because when the light hits the water/road on wet days...it just reflects...compared to a yellow 4000k bulb

so what i would do is 8000k hid and yellow foggies like 86 initial d style yo!

on a serious note what do you recommend??
im thinking about getting HID's instead of getting foggies. yes or no??

i recomend if you want good brightness/effective...go for 6000k hid...
i have 8000k and it kinda purple..looks fullysick!...less light output than 6000k
what i was planning to do is..since i have 8000k hid...when it rains/storms i cant see for crap..so i was thinking getting some yellow foggies..to use for bad weather conditions..
anyways..i would only recomend getting low beams..as hi/lo will just be nuts lol
o and make sure u wind em down..so you dont blind people..

6000k is already almost useless in rain so why go higher, its dangerous. they wont reflect off white lines but theyll simply bounce off it

lolz. you get them first so i can see how long u last before you get busted by the po po.
on another note my mate used to have these yellowish globes (not HID's) in his car and they looked so yellow and he never got busted for them. did look cool thou.

So I guess I'll either have too white 8000k lights (which isn't bad from what people are saying) or they'll "cool" down and I'll be getting what I paid for, or something along those lines. I'll try take a photo tomorrow evening of the lights so we can judge what they look like. :)

Took some pics, the actual lights look pretty blue when I take the photos but that may be because of the white balance. Could be this for all photos so maybe mine are fine. Underexposed 2 stops so that the lights wouldn't appear to be just a big white ball.

as i said before the pics tend to give out the blue tinge because at a close range the eye cannot tell the color and the lights actually dont really seem bluish. but when you look from a distance you can really see that color.

And it would probably be the headlights that are the colour, not the beams right? (i.e. People looking at me will see blue but the light I see on the road is white) :D

^^^ thats right you tend to see more of a whitish beam compared to ppl seeing it from a distance. its just like the newer cars. ie: euro, lights seem bluish in a distance up close its white.
