Check that link for some good information about E85

Basically, its higher octane rating (105-110) gives it more potential for power over PULP. Also, E85 burns faster compared to petrol and releases more energy per volume of air making it a more efficient fuel....

this fuel cannot be used on just any car. pretty sure there is only 1 or 2 cars available in aus 1 being the saab bio power. they had to change all of the fuel lines and seals incorporated in the puel system as e85 will burn/wear through normal plastic or rubber fuel lines. i know this as i used to work at a saab dealership.

We are running it on our EG for over 5months now. No problem so far.

Very good fuel to use, but i dont recommend for daily driver

You'll def need bigger injectors and tune

There isnt enough petrol station selling it to make it a viable option. I think there is 2 or 3 station in the Sydney Metro that are selling E85

Check the current duty cycle of your injectors and add 30%. If the current injectors are like at 60% cycle then no need to upgrade

yee theres a servo less than 5 mins from my house... but i think it would just be a problem if i wanted to go for a longer drive or sumthing.....

thanks

How certain are you that it is a more efficient fuel?

My understanding with E85 was you go through it at a quicker rate than PULP (for arguments sake, compared to 98RON fuels)

I have seen engines running static compression ratios as high as 15-16:1 on E85 due to its high octane rating. And since it burns faster than regular petrol it does not require as much ignition advance which means the engine is doing less negative work trying to compress a burning mixture. This all adds up to much greater thermal efficiency when compared to 100% petrol.

Generally, E85 requires 25-30% more fuel on an engine designed specifically for petrol.

E85 is not available to the public. Car will need to have a certificate saying its E85 ready or such.

Yes E85 will burn 25-30% more then normal pulp fuel. Its smells very nice :)

E85 is available to the public in Adelaide...... but only at a single petrol station

Yup...Basically what I was trying to get at. I guess the next question is, would the average person REALLY be saving money running E85, ie. 25-30% cheaper to fill up the tank... my feeling is no, purely based on price difference of E10 to regular unleaded and their respective economy.

As a fuel for increased performance from lets say a track orientated car I can see its merits.... as a fuel for average joe out there to save money on... I don't see the benefit. Only because the price difference just does not match the reduction in economy. Upsetting really... because I know that people out there are willing to be accepting of bio blended fuels, but not at the expense of their bank accounts.... this was a reason why I recently bought a diesel.

Good topic

E85 is actually more expensive per litre than PULP in Adalaide atm.....

E85 was worth it when its costed $1.50 to put premium into our cars back a couple of months ago. Back then the E85 was slightly over $1 a litre.

In terms of performance, the gains are there for race orientated cars. The net gains from built motors are priceless.

For daily drivers, ill stick to normal unleaded fuel or diesel if applicable

Well said, no point running E85 unless you have the compression or boost to make the most of it

In NSW, there are E85 available at pumps but are generally locked. Only good for race oriented cars. For daily, stick to unleaded.

its main advantages are cooler running & higher octane, making less likely to detonate.
In an everyday car you don't normally have that type of compression to take advantage of it. Also if its requiring about 30% larger injector size i'd say its less efficient than PULP per litre

did yu get a certificate done?... theres a couple servos ive found within 5 mins of my house.. im sure i can get them to sell it to me if i decide to go through the e85 route... which is only just a wackky idea atm.. nothing more.

ive heard a few people say it smells nice.? what does it smell like?
