Hi guys, this may sound like a totally noobish question but i bought a civic somewhat recently and have only just found time to go through the documentation that the dealership has given me.
Is there a document that i should look out for that says that the vehicle belongs to me and that i am the rightful owner? I see invoices and a whole stack of documents and this is all too confusing :(
Thanks in advance.

isn't that what an invoice is for?
what about your rego papers?

hey guys thanks for the note.
well i got the receipts and invoices but these documents don't prove that i own the vehicle except that i had paid for the car at some point and was its owner at that point in time ..
vinny + leeman: Regarding the rego, I also have a green piece of paper ("certificate of registration") from vicroads, which i think is the rego. My problem with this doc is that it looks kinda informal because the top part of this document has had some parts peeled off or torn off (looks like the part that got torn off/peeled off contained name and address labels) and i am pretty sure it was given to me that way by the dealership. The bottom part contains the vehicle and my details, and some bits of insurance info.
Is this the doc you are referring to or should i be looking out for something else?

the bit you classed as "peeled off or torn'' sounds to me like your rego label which is generally situated on your vehicle, the rego paper is enough to say "your the owner" and this document is what you use when go to sell your car!

you need to transfer the rego into your name
just take all the documentation you got with you to vicroads and they will help you sort it out

just pop by your local transport department and ask for a certificate of registration.
