when i bought a ek, the seller gave me 3 keys, one red master key which had no so called 'chip' according to the seller, in it, which can only unlock the car but cant ignite the car due to no chip, a key i think was the genuine honda key which had the whole black honda plastic ripped off so it was just the metal part (also no chip due to broken plastic part) and a black key which im guessing was the spare with the key numbers on it. i want to copy that coz i only have one key that can start the car and the others can only unlock. will honda still be able to do it considering its a old car('96 model)? would they need the chip thingy?

$200 at my dealer for 2 keys, programmed and supplied, for an EJ8, EM1 has a diff key, slightly longer than normal EKs

I personally wouldn't be having any one else make your keys unless it's a Honda dealer

back to the original post,

if you have your red key and 1 black key go to honda, a new genuine blank is $50, and they sould only charge $40 or $50 to program it.

you need 1 original black key and your red key

if you have lost your red key the it will cost shit loads at a dealer to get another black key

can't as it has the immob chip... otherwise he wouldve gone to minute key blokes...

Oh how I have tried to get a fake one, lol

next month I will fork over the doh for new ones as red electrical tape isn't doing justice, lol

the red key doesnt have a chip in it, only your black ones do.

the red key is just to keep the cut perfect so when theyre remaking your key theyre not basing it off a tired and wore down key.

this is wrong

the red key does have a Transponder in it as well.

if you have lost your red key I can program new genuine Honda Black keys into the system if you realy need it with out the red key. I can also program a black to act as the lost red key for normal future programming at a dealer.

How can you program the keys ? You got the honda scan tool? The way it works on hyundai's you need the car there, cant just program the key, otherwise the transponder wont know which immobiliser antenna to disarm etc?

ECU-MAN

All I need is the immo control unit, ecu and all keys to be used and I program and test them on the bench.

When I got my 96 Civic key cut, I took it to my local locksmith (Buffalo locksmith in Ryde) and they put the key in a scanning machine which read the immobiliser code, then they placed the new one in to copy the code over, all done.

Was alot cheaper too than Honda, and because I did not get the red key, Honda wanted to fit a new immobiliser system
