hey guys

i was changing the fluids today

flushed it out as normal etc etc

put the flush out knob back on and topped it up

not the knob part is leaking, so i thought.

i might aswell replace it with a aluminum one

read online, cause the cars old, rust can eat thru the aluminium ones quick
is that true?

also can i use half size tanks from EG or EK's?

found some on ebay for 120, thought it was worth the shot

kenny

Aluminium wont rust, it will oxidate however (bubbles and makes a layer of crap. It is possible that an aluminuim Rad will have a case of 'cholesterol' and not flow, but this is not gonna happen anytime soon)

But yea, rust wont be an issue if you go with an aluminium one.

I thought the old school rad's were Aluminium.

So if you put water in them it causes rust and therefore holes.

I might be wrong there though (mechanic told me that, thought mechanics have been renowned for being wrong)

old school radiators are copper core, i just looked at mine ( where i left a flesh wound from damaging it)

its pretty cool! reason why they are 250+ for OEM

like said lloyd, aluminium doesnt rust

it oxideses, causing spots that fill up with oxidation and prevent flow

nice nice trism

i am getting mine next week

llyod told me to get a Del Sol one

which is a exact fit with minimal mods

EG ones are taller, mean u have to tilt it \

isnt it supposed to have 2?

keep us updated on the new radiator, and would a half size radiator affect the cooling of the engine by any chance?

ive tried EG,EK and gen3 crx radiators, all are just too big to fit into a gen2 crx stock position, unless you make custom brackets for the bottom pins to sit in you'll have trouble closing your bonnet.

on the OEM setup, you have 2 big fans, one for your radiator the other for your A/C, both mounted behind the radiator.

changing to a half size radiator should effect the cooling of the engine as you only have half the amount of liquid/surface area, but if the engine is pretty standard, i dont see it being a prob as EG/EK both use half size ones as standard.

easiest solution is to just find another 2nd hand radiator, doesnt have to be from a crx, you can use ones from a ed civic aslong as it was running a D series and manual. B series(EF8/9) ones are the same size but have a larger inlet/outlet holes.

wouldnt less liquid mean that it would heat up quicker?

yeh, less liquid in circulation, less surface area for the fluid to cool through.. etc. but for daily usage, a half size radiator isnt going to be that much different to the stock one as they are used on the newer civics.
