my cosuin seems to think that after you go past your 2 sizes in diameter that to make it leagal all you need is an engineer certificate saying it is safe and can do everything properly.

for example on my euro i have stock 16s so i have 18s fitted at the moment, and he rekons that i can put 20s and get a engineering certificate and i wont get defected.

i live in sa btw.

what do u guys think

i thought it was same rolling diameter is fine but anything bigger or smaller is defectable...in qld though.....thats what i think it is anyways

your rolling diameter need to be as close to stock as it can be.

e.g 16 runs 205/55
17 runs 205/45
18 runs 205/40
and so on

This is not true. Although an engineers certificate will help to clear a defect, it does not prevent a defect.

the ruling is not about rim sizes

it is about rolling diameter

if you go to far over the rolling diameter, then you can get into trouble

i heard that you can go 1 inch wider than whatever is an option on your car and the rolling diameter is 15mm over or under

my mate said you can do whatever and as long as you get it engineerd you wont get defected <- is this not true? and if its not, whats the point of engineering something?

The point is that you can remove the defect easily. It is much more efficient to flag potential threats and process them later and elsewhere, than to waste an officers time on the spot.
