can you put a minimum character requirement on thread titles?

im really getting sick of seeing absolutely useless thread titles

it just brings out the spammer in me

i mean in the lounge on the front page alone we have

* any help
* last night
* infidelity
* pineapples (that was me)

it just seems like every thread titles is missing another 5 or 6 words

Completely a user issue,
If you as a browser see something like this, simply report it so that a mod can have a look at it and move/moderate where necessary.

Its not for you as the reader/browser to stress about - if the OP doesnt name his thread properly, then he/she will have less chance of getting their answers.

There are other things to worry about in life and on ozhonda :)

OZHONDA IS LIFE!!

Well thats your issue to contend with, not the OPs...
You spam, you'll get infracted which can lead to a potential ban.

Exercise self control.

if i had self control then i wouldn't be posting from jail right now

don't you think there should be some form of standard setup for thread titles though?

makes it easier for the search function. makes it easier for browsing

i mean theres rules for posts when they go off topic, shouldn't there be at least a guideline for thread titles?

Agreed that the quality of threads as a whole is quite average...
However i dont believe there's such a feature on VBulletin that allows for such rules to be set....again Wynode/Bennjamin advise if this is not the case.

From my understanding, there can be rules set however it'll all have to be a manual implementation and enforced by mods rather than a forum restriction.

should be quite easy to enforce thread title guidelines though

much easier than sifting through thread replies for spam

although i do understand that these guidelines at the end of the day might be reviewed with the mods discretion as it won't be like thread titles in the marketplace where there are certain aspects which are common to each sale item

Just to elaborate......as Q said it's up to the thread starter to make the thread title descriptive. In the past I have come across titles where users have titles such as "Help me please" and so on......which are no indication as to the contents of the thread. It really is in the best interest of the thread starter to have an appropriate thread title.

I could put a minimum character limit on the title......but that won't stop people from making threads with silly titles.
