Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster - I've just recently picked up a CU2 Accord Euro Luxury Nav (Build date 12/08).

After 3 days I've noticed that there's a rattling noise that seems to be coming from the centre dash when the car begins moving from standstill. It doesn't happen unless the car is at a very slow speed (or a dead stop) and I've pressed the accelerator - I'm by no means flooring, just at regular use. The noise seems to get better as I drive, but its still fairly annoying.

Petrol is still from the dealer (so I'm assuming 95 RON minimum) and I was wondering if anyone here has had the same experience or any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Thanks in advance!

Have you got an auto?
Could be the 'ping' problem others have got?

Do you have an automatic? The sound usually occurs in automatics but not sure what the cause is. I recall reading that it was due to the torque converter but there isnt much info as far as i know. Here is another thread regarding the sound: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96966

My brother also has an auto CU2 lux satnav and he can hear some sound on slow take-off particularly between 40-60km/hr. I have heard it but it appears very faint. We have about 1200km on the car. Will see how it goes. I dont think honda has a solution at the moment. Last time i read up on this issue, the american tsx (US version of our euro) also experiences the same problem.

Have a search on the forum as there are a few threads addressing this issue. I havent read too much more in depth regarding this sound but im sure there are a few other members who can lend a hand ;)

Is it like a buzzing sound? mine did it - was the little silver inlay on the woodgrain on the centre cup holders being loose and buzzing around!

Sounds like the dreaded 'pinging' to me. Does it sound like rattling ball bearings? Mine does it heaps, and it makes no difference which petrol it runs.

^Anth is it loud at all? Ive been driving the CU2, but althought i can hear the rattling when im looking for it, other than that i dont hear anything.

It is not loud - a loud song will make it disappear. But if you turn off the radio it is often noticeable.

Mine only occurs under load, at between 1800-2400 rpm. Most annoying is on cruise on the highway, where the car stays on 2000rpm!

I guess the car is so solid and quiet otherwise...

Have you informed your dealer or Honda Australia??
I think you have the same pinging issue, based on your discription.

Anth and anyone who has the pinging issue, how many km do you have on the car?

We have abt 1200km on the car. The pinging isnt really noticeable when i drive it. Even if it does occur, its often really subtle and doesnt last more than about 3 seconds.

Mine now has 6000km on it and it got worse after 3,000km...and to be honest it becomes more noticeable as you are now aware of it and were not before...sort of ruins the enjoyment of a new car to say the least...

Yeah i'll keep my ears out for it next time.

I agree, we become more wary of the sound since others have been complaining of it. I guess we wouldnt notice the sound as much if we hadnt read about it lol
My cl9 has headers etc and to me, the sound of the CU2 is nothing compared...BUt then again, its a new car, its meant to be perfect! Will see how our CU2 goes, hope honda comes up with something...fingers x!!

I've got a similar problem... for me it sounds like keys rattling (quite high pitch) and only occurs under load at low rpms, usually 1-2 shift or 2-3 shift (i have manual). It comes from the centre console. I'll be getting honda to check it during the 1000km service. (Hopefully they can find it and fix it)

i've discoverd that i have the same prob as Stik79! Thanks for helping me out.

how did you guys tighten the little silver inlay on the woodgrain on the centre cup holders as mine buzzes sometimes?

Hi All,

Just a quick update - it is a buzzing noise but I still haven't been able to locate exactly where its coming from :(

Coming up to the 1000km service next Friday, might have the dealer check it out - The problem is I just can't replicate all the time, at take off it is noticeable 20-30% of the time and if I'm driving on rough surfaces its also more noticeable.

Will keep the thread updated with the findings/resolutions :)
