Hey guys,

I was wondering how to install new studs into my existing hub..

Do I need to take the hub off? When I do, does the bearing seal perish meaning I need a whole new hub anyway?

Is it possible to replace my crossthreaded stud simply by knocking a new one in?

basically, no you dont need to remvoe the hub

if you are using extended studs you will need to take the front hub off but normal length studs you don't

as far as i know whether or not you're using stock or extended studs on the front of your ek you'll need to press out your hub, install the studs and press the hub back in

i've been able to do this without destroying the current wheel bearing

EG, EK - For front and rear, you have to take off the hubs...trust me, sounds like alot of work (well it is), but it also makes it alot easier.

I have knocked my standard front studs out tried to fit my extended studs and couldn't fit the extended ones in so reinstalled the standard studs

So no you don't have to remove the hub if the studs are standard length

So what hapepns to the bearing and seal when you take it off.. doesnt the seal become void making it a bit dodgey to whack the existing hub / bearing back on?

i also installed skunk2 extended studs on the rear without removing the hub

well to be fair my experience was only with 4x114.3 but i just assumed it were the same
i was not able to remove the stud without pressing out the hub on the front, rear was possible though

to answer kath's question, as long as you press it on straight it should be okay
the inner race usually gets stuck to the hub though

nothing..the bearings should be sealed, and should be that easily damaged.
For peace of mind, on the front hub, there's a dust seal on the insde, you can remove that.

Actually, You can probably get away without taking the hubs off for the rear though.

cos the bearings and the hubs are a full assembly
