View Full Version : Ducati 749 vs. cbr600rr

Hey all,

Just after some different views here...

Taking a look at a couple of 749's this weekend, and hoping to ride some cbr's too...

There is an obvious price differential of a few thousand, this isnt a concern, and the servicing and maintenance costs of the DUc will be higher, but again im not concerned...

Are there any other differences that anyone here feels are pertinent that i may not be thinking about?

Any thoughts?

the RR is cool, however the 749 is a completely different bike, serious power out of that Duke. Probably cheaper to run the honda, parts and servicing on a Duke can be expensive.

I'd go for the honda, my old man had a Ducati and it was very expensive to maintain.

fair point, but the maintenance dollars isnt an issue im considering in the buying decision... it's a toy not transport

Ducati's are not that expensive to maintain if you have abit of know how.
Just make sure you change the Timing Belts on schedule. I used to do this myself.
the only expense with a Ducati is there there are so many aftermarket parts for it.. :-p

on the bike, hmm...A ducati is very different, unlike a Japanese screamer, the VTwins give very usable power. If you're looking for a toy, the Ducati is it.

Its a bike that when you throw into corners, will look at you and go "is that all you got?"
e.g. Going into a turn, knee down on a GSXR750 have you going "fark, i'm gonna die" - On the Duke, its more like "hang on, this bikes got alot more than I can actually give."

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the 7s and go straight for the 9s...try and get hold of a 998s which in my opinion is the last of the greats in that series. the 999s..well..phht..the 1098s? Drool!

would love a 1098... :-) theres a really nice 999 on the market right now but out of my price range...

this is in the range of what i want to outlay, and it is a bit smaller in capacity as this will be my first bike.

Well before saying what you are suggesting is illegal, it is also stupid! Go and get a 250 or a heavier 500 that is LAMS approved.

V twins vibrate the shit out of you, They (Ducati's) break down and have no top end power.

WOW WOW WOW, relax mate....
one of my mates use to have a cbr1000rr, he sold it and bought a ducati 1098, he says performance wise the ducati has a bit more but he goes definately not worth 20k more than the cbr... he says its also not as fun because his just too scared of hurting it...

its up to you i guess, someone that buys a ferrari could easily save their money and buy an evo or something and pour a bit of money into it and go just as fast but its the status they want..

True dat, hard to go past the Jap bikes just on price alone.
749's seem to be around the $15k mark, for a 5 year old bike.
600rr's are less than that brand new. ;)

Id take the CBR600RR thanks.

Japanese don't need to mod...very sterile...very functional...good if you want a tool, but not if you want a toy...

Stock 1098s, with semis and trashed imported HRC hondas @ a race series in Malaysia on its maiden run. All ridden by very experience racers.

Here is the bike and rider - Pasir Gudang is a track similar in length to Eastern Creek, although Eastern Creek is a quicker track.

well... probably going to get flamed, but i went to check on the 749 Dark that was at Northside Motorcycles, but it was sold. Spewing, it was going for 13k, with 5k kms on it, it was a real gem...

Anyway i had my eye on a VT750c2 before i saw the duke, so i went down the road and test rode that, and i think im in love :-)

Demo bike with 1000 kms on it... black in colour with lashings of chrome... i've thought Harley, but can stand the thought of messing one up due to inexperience... so i think im going to settle for this for now, and get a HD in a couple of years

:-) no race bike for me... keeps the missus happy too!

Oh well, get that chrome polish ready...

I think its a pretty good choice, They sound mad with a Vance and hines exhaust on them.
Also the fit and finish quality is much better than a Harley.. most Harley parts come from china these days.

Check out the new Honda VT400 L.A.M.S approved, good looking bike for a little cruiser.

wow, is that available now? its like the little version of the VT750C classic....

Im looking into pipes and intakes now... probably go seal the deal this saturday

Shaft driven, fuel injected, as much as a Harley is just something else... im getting a lot for my money on the VT

S2kane

Yep available to order now..
Probably take a few more weeks to start seeing them in dealerships though.

VT750C2 with pipes sounds sooo much better than stock.
Good that you got the injected model also
