the tail lights look like LED but they are 100% NOT LED lights.

all civics gone up, sport atm is about 36,000 on rd for auto but with free reg in vic.

VTi gets VSA and side airbags
VTI-L get curtian bags

all models get remote boot release

Paul1985
16-01-2009, 11:20 AM
My G/F picked hers up on 31st Dec.

Taillights different (hexagon looking shape rather than round inside taillights).

Front is slightly different but i can hardly tell.

Interior is slightly different looking in velour colour.

VSA standard

Side airbags standard

Price increase is around 1200 -1500 if i recall correctly.

My G/F got ripped massively and ended up paying around a total of 31k for a stock vti (no options) by the time they had charged her for roadside assistance, warranty, dealer fees, on-roads etc etc.

At the moment hondas are coming free with the CTP & stamp duty, free 5 years roadside assist, free extended warranty.

I think i seen an advertisement for the new civic starting from about 22,500

EDIT: Above is correct, the rear lights are not LED. I looked at them, the plastic is made to give that appearance and break the light up by the looks of it.

38.5k is a good price for a new sports with bodykit and sensors... thats almost the same (2k more expensive- which all 09 car price will be up around this much)when 06 model just come out with bodykit and sensors...

The Civic Type R's retail at 39,000. For 38.5k for sports.. id throw a bit more in and get the R personally, or even a euro instead of a civic. Just me though.

You get that when your g/f decides to go buy a car alone and the first one she sees on that day with zero negatiating. The guys were real dodgy in this particular place too. I'm thinking of calling Honda Aust and telling them about the bad service and experience we have had (not just the price issue aswell).

My g/fs car has an internal leak in the P/S rack aswell which is going to be done under warranty already. I found this issue within 1 week of having the vti. Sucks...

Other than this issue its been fine for my g/f.

They do have the boot release on the key now aswell as someone mentioned..

my mate just picked up a Black FN2R for $37500 drive away, the dealer say there will be a type s model comin out in april also the existing type R in white with white rims, type s will be a luxury version of the type r with built in navigation, blue tooth and full leather interior, slightly cheaper than type R and a smaller engine. and we saw in the FN2 user manual, it saids CIVIC TYPE-R and TYPE-S

If it is the UK type-s, it is using R18 engine (same as civic vti, and vti-l), but civic sports is a K20 engine. So expect different power figure.

Hi everyone,

I'm another newbie to these forums.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a new Civic sport as a first car and would value your opinions on this car. Valuable information would include negotiation on price, what to ask for in terms of freebies (ie mats, tint etc), which model to go for (08' or 09') and any tips in general (homework) before going to see the dealer for the bargaining.

Thanks in advance!

Do not sign the "Waiving your cooling off rights".
Signing this will lock you into the contract then and there... If you don't, you have 3 days to pull out.

Definately call a few different dealerships, say.. this place offered me floor mats, call the other one and then say... this one offered me floor mats and tint. Can you beat that? They most likely will.

Look at honda.com.au and check your model for its RRP. Do not pay through the roof. It shouldnt be a whole heap more than that price. If you hurry up and get soon im pretty sure there is still a free extended warranty, stamp duty and CTP and free roadside assistance. Do not buy straight away and go in with another person... Look at the cars, test drive, work out a deal and say you will come back.... Talk with your family and friends for advice and opinions... if you like you could then call and try bargain down even more... then when happy go in with your details and purchase... read EVERYTHING they make you sign.. If you look at my posts my g/f got ripped a new hole by our local dealer. Do not make this same mistake.

Where you from?? Melb/syd??

black8thgen
27-01-2009, 03:22 PM
Well if you go through this thread, and another thread in the same forum, think its something like prices on a new civic.. thats doing your homework =].

you'll find heaps of info on lots of deals people got and what they bargained for.. its not actually that hard to bargain with some honda dealers =].

oh yeah and like paul said, its really easy to call up lots of dealers and say another one gave u this and this for this amount, and sort of fudge the amount a bit =]

Muzzy
27-01-2009, 03:39 PM
Thanks for your time in responding fellas.

I will definately take your advice when shopping around =) I've done the check a few different stores thing with a TV before so it shouldn't be too difficult to pull off a few freebies here and there.

I'm from Sydney btw. My closest Honda dealer is in Lychard. I did go past one around North Sydney somewhere as well.

I know its been discussed a little but what do you think in regards to model? The 08' will definately be on the cheaper end so I'm not sure whether the black interiour and facelift will justify the extra mula. However, there is also the fact that the new facelift will maintain its price for longer than the non-lift 08' model right?

black8thgen
27-01-2009, 03:50 PM
Well yeah you'd think the 09 facelift model will retain its value better, but also there are people who prefer the 08 look better than the 09, so selling the car later shouldn't be hard if u get the 08.

The black interior is like the only thing that i like about the new model, hexagonal tail lights are bad, and the new front bumper doesn't help justify the jump in price. Well there is a boot release on the key now tho =].

Paul1985
27-01-2009, 06:34 PM
i like the look of the 08 better, but on the 09 these are some things the 08 doesnt have:

-side airbags
-VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)

That is unless the Sport has these standard on 08 aswell??? Im not too sure..
These are things that maybe you would consider an 09 over an 08. It also would depend what 08 stock the dealer has.

black8thgen
27-01-2009, 06:49 PM

You're right about the sport.

Had I known VTi would get VSA + TC, side air bag and remote boot for a $500 price increase, I would def waited another 6 months.

Insane value for money for the VTi model now, more reason for people to get VTi instead of VTi-L. Also beats any car in this price range by far.

Mine was ready to pick up 4 days after signing contract. But my bank held it up a few days more with the procedures.

I'm going to pick it up this afternoon. Quite excited =)

Ok picked up the car earlier today and it was in top notch condition! The only minor issue I had was with the window tint on the rear window, it had some air bubbles in it.

But the dealer said that it is due to the tint being done today and the weather has been overcast and humid so it didn't get a chance to dry. If it doesn't dry up he gave his word that it would be fixed on the 1st free service.

Ok so the dealer I bought it from was Rick Damelian in Lychard. Ask for Nick, he's quite frank with everything and easy to deal with. Highly recommended. I'm a happy customer thus far... =)

Sorry mate I'm not willing to do that.

I already had another dealer ask me for a copy of the contract. He couldn't believe it could be sold for that price. I didn't want to deal with the headaches so I didn't give it to him. Even offered me a year free service. lol

As much as I would like to do that I prefer not to.
I don't want to have my name/contract circulate around the many Honda dealerships and cause havoc between them.

I rather cruise my sexy FD2 around without having to deal with that thank you :)

I did provide the details of the dealer though. So anyone is free to try and get the same deal.

damn, all dealerships say i dun hav anything to proof for that price... i even asked them to call up the dealership and they say its sumthin they dont want to do between dealerships, ah well... i guess i'll never get that deal in brisbane... -_- goin to buy it on monday, see what price he'll offer me for an 09 civic sport manual in black, all i want is carpet and paint protection...

I saw an 09 sport on the road the other day. Firstly lets say i prefer my current shape 06 - 08 models.

The tail lights don't suit shape or design (too squarish, hexa shape on a already rectangular tail light allows for no contrast between the whole thing). The alloys are the ugliest looking wheels ever (but that's alright cos most will probably change those).

However what surprises me the most are the foglights. What were they thinking by putting the FG (US Variant) fog lights on out FD's, it does not suit our car. I'm not sure if this is standard on all the new sports, but those fogs look feral IMO (too much plastic black surrounding around this tiny little light) the larger rectangular light suits the more squarish design of the 06-08 fd2.

all you can do is ring the dealer he bought it of in sydney and ask if he can do the same! if yes, fly down and drive home!

sounds like just a good fleet price to me............that was my drive away back in 06 for our sports.

and with the small changes to the cosmetics........it's the same platform that still rocks .......I sometimes think it's not bad in terms of speed with 1/4tank left and just driver.

You might be right about some of those points. Although it is a personal (subjective) choice as to which tail lights/fog lights look better.

On the other hand I guess there are three other extra's with the 09' spec.

- Black interior
- Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
- Remote Boot Release

Again a preference thing but it would be safe to say that I would prefer to have these rather than not.

For the price I picked it up for anyway :)
