Hi guys, in the next year or so im hoping i will be able to get a integra type R. I like the look of the DC5R yet alot of ppl tell me the DC2R is actually a better car. The DC5R has a bigger engine and more power and thats why I was wanting one of these over a DC2R. Whats your opionions on the two, tell me some disadvantages and advantages of both? Another is looking at DC2R alot are gettin high km's on them now and this was also turning me away from them.

A) Do a search on here for similar threads
B) Take both for a drive an see which one you like better
C) Your the one buying the car, so your the one that has to like it better

Personally, I think the DC5R takes to modifications better then a DC2R, That and the B-series engine is about 20 years old... so is quiet dated. that's why i chose my car... also think they look better.

But i do rate the DC2R (Stock for stock), and understand why it has been voted one of the best FWD cars ever produced.

The way i see it, the only reason you'd get a DC2 (or any kind of civic for that matter), is if you can't afford a DC5. Performance-wise, there'll be negligible differences. Especially when considering mods. Therefore, I stipulate that you're better off choosing the one with the better looking chassis.

So what tickles your fancy?

A box on wheels with small beady eyes and a long flat nose that collided with Keira Knightley's chest?

or a DC5 Integra Type R?

i recokn the dc2 looks more meaner and i like how low it is, but the interior in dc5 is really nice. btw i had nver hear of Keira Knightley. just looked her and im impressed

I recon the DC2R all the way, but if the DC5R has the mugen front bar, skirts and spoiler it beats the DC2R, but only with those mods!

Take both out for a drive, they're both pretty different in nature...

If the DC2R is a box on wheels with small beady eyes and a long flat nose that collided with Keira Knightley's chest... The DC5R is Keira Knightly with a push up bra and eyelashes slanted and eyes like Asian 16:9 with Botox injection lol...

dc5 , looks so much nicer and so much better interior. not ot mention a fair bit newer , easier to find lower kms and generally reliable

jks24
18-01-2009, 09:07 PM
yeh well im goin to be after something with prob no more than 100000kms on the clock so its goin to be hard to find a dc2r with this. Interior deffinately looks better in dc5 but dc2 shape looks better i reckon. Argh such a hard decision, lol

just go for a dc5r its motor has more potential then the b18c7 and most of all its a more refined car than the dc2r.

Be a try hard and get the original classic shape R.
DC5R's are for soft c0cks who cant handle the sheer rawness and brutality that is track racing.

Unbiased suggestion though, seriously... drive both and see which one you like better.
There are only a few dc2r's out there that will be under 100k kms these days - so if you're looking for something thats definitely under that, then stick with your dc5r option.
That said though, 100k+ kms on the clock doesnt mean that the motors gonna be shit - so long as its been looked after, both k20a and b18c will last a long long time.

DC2R like everyone else has said is more raw and u can feel every bump. cabin noise is pretty lound if u dnt have a cd player and your on the highway all u can hear is the engine reving. not that its a bad thing.
DC5R is smoother an looks nicer. even though i drive a DC2R i like the DC5R.
power wise stock for stock there is only like 10 kwts difference.
the DC5R is def softer to ride and a better cruiser than the DC2R

very great cars with alot to offer

heaps of storage room, can easily fit people in them with realitive comfort if you need to, large aftermarket support for both makes

ks is not a good thing to judge cars on soley as I've seen plenty of imports with low ks that have blown turbos in a very short time frame of purchase, so as long as ethier have been serviced as per the owners manual you wont have a problem with ethier

Im not sure if insurance is a factor for you, but both will be fun if your on your ps to insure

I do find the DC2R to be alot more raw and aggressive than the DC5R, can't really beat the look of the JDM ones hey, such clean lines...

i hear the dc5 has bader handling then the dc2..?

mmy opinion would be that the dc2r i would consider more of a track born car... and the dc5r is like HOT daily driver with alot of potential

honestly mate.. both the Dc2R and the Dc5R are good cars.. but a plus side to the DC5 is that it has a launch control:D:D but the shape and style of the DC2 is more sleek and sporty.. but on the other hand the DC5 is newer..

mate mate come on! its doesnt come down to the owner being a tryhard or someone who want to impress the ladies or being a true car enthuesiast. if you want to turn heads any car with alot of bling will turn heads and mind you they might not all be goin OH AH AWESOME as well.

JKS24 getting to your issue at hand....dc2r and dc5r are both beautiful cars with really well balanced engines. the choice comes down to the buyer, not finances but if your planning on doing something with your ride. put it this way, K20 > B18 but what makes your happy? drive both of them in my opinion you shall feel the K20 has more power through the range of gears where as compared to a b series. as QBALL stated above its also about the driver skills!

it is in my opinon, more power and sunroof . and leather seats , but i guess some people prefer the recaros over them. depends what you want out of a car i guess

I heart the SSS
25-01-2009, 09:18 PM
I guess there's a reason it doesn't have the red badge though?

IMO i wouldn't pass on a nice clean CW DC2R...

Like Nams old car, things perfection on wheels.

00dc2
26-01-2009, 10:15 AM
i think the typeS has no LSD... but DC5S, DC5R and DC2R are pretty much identical around a track.. as was illustrated in a magazine article few yrs back. explains price similarity.

DC2R was specially made for racing in europe. They were made at a loss (over engineered) by Honda to guarantee it would break track records for its class back in 96 or whenever. This car has more motoring tradition.. but its not as refined and getting old...

DreadAngel
26-01-2009, 10:19 AM
Refined as in creature comforts no... but it was refined as a track machine. DC5R more or less the same spirit however you can help but feel they diluted it somewhat...

Theyre not all the same price

DC2Rs go for about 15-20k these days,
DC5Rs go from anywhere between 20k-30k still.
DC5Ss go for about 28k-35k the last time i checked...
Still some massive price differences.

there is nothing wrong with the dc5s guys... just depends if u want a little luxury or u want it to look more racey/ricey(dc5r)??

More power but more weight for type S.. NO LSD(wish it did tho)

And handling if your gonna modify it... u can make it handle better anyway mate... nothin coilovers and sways/struts can't fix!

I brought a type s cause it was newer.. less problems...

wickedtyper
27-01-2009, 03:50 PM
one thing yall forgetting!!!! weight... DC2R is heaps lighter ie 150-200kg lighter....plus DC2R's are hot.... well at least mine is hahaha

DC2R is the pure thoroughbred racer. Lightweight and nimble. Not another chance at profit or market share. (Honda actually made a loss over-engineering it)

the AUDM DC5R comes no where near it, neither the type S in terms of purity and race pedigree.

The JDM DC5R however I have read differently about; though never experienced it.

Before anybody flames me and throws 0 - 100 times at me this is not about which is a faster car. Yes the K-series is a better engine and the DC5R chassis is built from scratch and is a lot stiffer.

I am talking about the driver enjoyment the car offers and it being fit for intended use. Not 'de-tuned' or 'softened' to conform with the target market of the nation.

Be that as it may - I think whatever car, Type R Honda's offer something alot more engaging than most other car companies out there and are ahead of the others.

Pitty most have been discontinued going forward. But I guess profits talk hey...

i was in the same position not long ago.
i went with the dc2r, picked it up with 68000kms and i would never look back.
i drove a dc5r afterwards, and so glad i didnt buy.
what leaned me towards the dc2r was its rawness.
the dc5r is newer yes, and maybe does have more potential, but.. dc2r, original.
comes down to personal preference, just dont make the wrong choice.

Launch control? Are you sure? Are you referring to the 4000 rev limit on stand still?

Because if you are, you'll be spinning your wheels.

I lived in Japan for a few years, and my mates would always say its about originality. (dc2 = classic ) fair enough jdm spec stuff is better than what we have here, but i was always turned on more by a roaring dc2r than the now very common dc5anything. ever heard a 10000rpm battle around suzuka circuit? :D as a uni student, all i could afford back in aus was a dc2 vti-r.. go the classics yo

Only way to settle this; decide if you're a DC5 fanboy or a DC2 fanboy

Personally i love my PC, PS3 and DC5 (Given that I haven't bought any PS3 games; still waiting for that mod chip)

I think the DC5r would be easier to live with day to day. But in my opinion - its not as thrilling with a different balance as compared to the older car. Not as much driver feedback either.

DC2 type r. Condom free motoring.

For 90% of the time without the fear of losing my licence - or having my car impounded - the DC5r would be a nicer place to be.
