Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me a quick 1-liner on what these are and how they affect the cars performance?

Headers
Catback? exhaust
Kpro ECU

Muuuuuch appreciated!

Headers+catback are breathing mods, affects response and mid/peak power depending on the type that you get.

Kpro - like all other ecu's - controls how the car manages the fuel/air ratios and how the engine runs etc.

Thanks for the extremely prompt response Q ball.

What types of headers/exhausts are available? Do you just mean the different brands?

Furthermore, was wondering what gains can be typically seen by installing any of these parts?

The goal of headers is to make it easier for the engine to push exhaust gases out of the cylinders.

The catalytic converter is to convert harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions before they ever leave the car's* exhaust system.

K-Pro(chip) consists of a hardware modification to any K-Series ECU.

Headers

this is the part of the exhaust that bolts directly to the motor. it will take gases form all the cylinders and merge them into one.

will generally look like this

Catback? exhaust

After the headers, there is a catalytic converter. it uses heat and certain catalysts to turn harmful chemicals into less harmful ones. after this the exhaust pipe goes towards the back of the car where there can be resonators and/or mufflers to help reduce the volume of the exhaust

will look something like this

Kpro ECU

the ECU is the engine control unit. it does what it says. controls fuel/air management, spark, timing, and more

the Kpro is just one brand of aftermarket ECUs

there can be two piece, one piece, 4 into 2 into 1, 4 into 1 different designs, different lengths. as well as different brands

depending on the type of headers you will get either a gain in the mid section of the rev range, or the top end could. get you 10-15kw

a catback will assist with getting the exhaust out. could get you 5kw

an ecu with let you do alot and work with all other mods, and you could net a gain of up to 30kw

:scratches head and wonders why he bothered to write the "new to modifying cars" guide that is stickied at the top of the noob section: :zip:

so saying its easy to push out it will be much easier with a straight pipe aye cause its got no cataylitc converter and muffler

if you want some raw power from headers, get something with antireversion steps (small pipes into gradually bigger pipes). according to fluid dynamics, gases flow from high pressure systems to low pressure systems to even out the pressure. small pipe = higher pressure, bigger pipes = lower pressure, therefore it drives the flow of exhaust gases in the right direction and helps to counter camshafts with large overlaps.

antireversion steps are useful for about 40 inches after the header as well, so you can also get a cat back exhaust that is slightly larger than the collector opening of your extractors (to a certain extent) and gain power as well as a lot more response.
