I have a 97 EK civic, totaly stock. I am looking to upgrade the engine, not sure to what yet, maybe a b16a, turbo @ 8psi, new exhaust.
I have been reading a heap of posts about people upgrading their brakes, making the front disks better and changing the back brakes to disks... Thing is, my stock brakes are astonishing. I have a friend with a ford fairlane and my brakes leave him for dead. I can stop from 160 > 0km/h in less that 100m without even trying... So do I really need to upgrade? even with the massive power boost I will be gaining, I find it hard to think that the brakes i have wont be adequite.

You need better brakes if you plan to stop just as quick for higher speeds. Even with a turbo, if you don't drive at higher speed, then you won't need upgraded brakes.

can't really compare the braking performance of a fairlane to a civic as it is a different drivetrain configuration (rear vs front wheel drive) and also such a big weight difference as well

unless the car is going to be used on the track there is no need to upgrade ur brakes given that in Aus most roads don't go over 100km/hr

But isnt that what life is all about? lol. Comparing what you have to what the next guy has? If we didn't do that, there would be no reason for anything competative... like drag races. I agree with you, its not a fair comparison, but dont all the ford owners always go on about the power of their big loud cars? I know my friend does, lol.
You know, its just me taking any excuse to talk up my Honda :D

i'd get ITR front calipers & rotors. Its the cheapest option and it improves the civic's braking 100%. That's what i did in my ek4.
Otherwise just pads help

did you use to full knuckle and do a 5 stud conversion?
ir did you just get the rotors redrilled into 4x100?
are the mounting points for the calipers the same even though the rotors are bigger diam?
id like to put itr calipers/rotors on my ed/ef but i dont wanna convert to 5 stud

Good pads and good fluid will give you plenty of stopping power for the street.

While were at it,some Braided brake lines will firm up the pedal if your old brake lines are 10+ yrs old.

ummm...what does the drivetrain have to do with braking?
people tend to use brakes when they want to slow down

Look, If you are going to leave it stock then keep the standard brakes. No-one with a 8 psi b16a (what like 150kw at the wheels ? ) is going to stay the speed limit all the time.
Do you want to be in a position where your brakes will fail to stop your car ? No you dont, so upgrade your brakes.
if i was you, i would upgrade suspension components first then last do the engine.

itr caliper will bolt onto an ek not sure about your car thoe
and if ring dba and chat to the guy nicley they can remove a set of itr discs from the production line and then drill then 4x100 so you don't have to redrill them
you will have to wait till the next production run on itr discs thoe

if you upgrade your brakes, dont forget to upgrade your tyres!
