engine numbers

Hey,
I'm about to pick up my ek4 and I was looking into doing a REVs check or w/e.
I asked the owner for the VIN and the engine code, however the engine code he gave seems rather short =\ its something like 7 digits. Does anyone know how long a typical ek4 engine number should be ? examples maybe?

im pretty sure it is 12 numbers for the enine and 16 for the vin... i think =|

hahah the VIN is 17, I'm sure of that, just not the engine no. :S
12 seems a tad more reasonable than 7 ... lol

so then the 7 numbers he gave me would go where the x's are. and since the engine is a b16a2 << does it keep the 2?

I believe jap Vin number is 7 digits,
but not the engine number. engine number should be around 11. (you also count the "B18C" or "B16A" as 4 digits, and then the rest of the digits)
