according to this thread on h-t (http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1250405&highlight=mount+torque) they say you can use the mounts on either side without a problem

now i know that the center 'tube' where the bracket from the engine goes through is longer on the a/c side than the gearbox side
but what if i whack on enough washers between the bracket and mount and space out the mount enough on the a/c side to bolt up to the chassis, this safe to do at all?

wondering because the stock a/c torque mount is stupid, the gearbox side looks way more beefy
sick of using the es inserts on those torque mounts

why did the ES break on you?

If your gonna use washers make sure you get quality high tensial ones or stainless steel one.

Don't see why not so long as it all bolts up. It doesn't really move much

if it matters i've seen the beefier one you speak on both sides on a members eg... looks like it fit perfectly.

just use sikaflex 252 vinny... mine are going a year strong now.. although my rear one cracked in half at the rubber and not the sicka.... it's got rubber grindings coming out of it atm

limbo; they didn't break, just don't want to use them anymore
getting hasport mounts and after reading some horror stories on h-t about i thought i'd keep the mounts on there but i don't need them to do any work, just hold the engine incase somehow the other mounts break

dsp26; nah i don't want to use sikaflex anymore, don't want the vibrations from them mounts because the hasports will be enough hehe

lol... then the pissy looking one won't be a problem with the hasports all-round :p

problem is the only thing left of my pissy one is the center 'tube' and the mount itself, no rubber:p

sikaflex is gay which is why i wanted to replace the mount in the first place :p

give it a go, can't hurt

yeah finding the damn mount is the issue now :p

yeah give it a go vinny its cheap... THE ONLY WAY sikaflex won't stick to the oem rubber is if it's dirty or if it's gone plastic-ey... you can file it down anyway.

didn't you have a tub of flexane? now that shit GRAFTS to most rubbers.... with the primer though....

i'll go halves on a $20 tube of sika252 if either of you want... i only need a poofteenth of the tube to fill part of a rear mount, didn't stick properly coz it was dirty.. and this wasn't even on the car.

1 full tube can do all 5 b-series engine mounts

boohoo not getting the point guys
i DON'T want them to be solid hehe i just want them to hold up the motor incase one of the other mounts fail but i don't want to use the crappy a/c one that is normally there

horror stories on h-t

care to share? Im running innovative mounts and no torque mounts and im curious now :o

OT, i dont see why you wouldnt be able to use a gearbox side mount on the AC side. Hole wise they are symmetrical i believe (edit: i just checked, the holes that bolt to the chassis are the same at least) its just the rubber design thats different and useless on the AC side

on a side note check these out, mine when i pulled them out

yeah i'm telling ya the 2 small gay front mounts have held my motor+gb in place along with just the rear mount (rear mount wasn't filled)... i know coz i was filling and replacing my mounts 1 at a time....

although i didn't drive it for a prolonged period.. just around the street... i think the rear mount dictates the most

coz what your getting at is.. if by chance your front+side hasports shat themselves (very unlikely) you wanna know if the 2 front ones can hold the engine long enough for you to get your car somewhere safe right?

closed the window already alexx but if you search h-t you'll find them, look for hasport or something

well if i run without torque mounts at all if either one of the side mounts snap the engine's gonna fall one way or another
if i still have torque mounts there it's still gonna fall but not as much
i don't really care if they do anything for feel but the security is there
and i don't want any 'added' vibes so i don't wanna solid fill them either

not really concerned about the holes, it's the length of the 'tube' which slips over the engine bracket which i'm worried about
if you had both mounts side by side (unbroken!) you'll see what i mean

vinny the AC mount (offest tube) cannot be used on the drivers side (flush)

you can use the dirvers side on the AC mount side with some heavy tube or washes tho.

yeah i'll be using the gb side on the ac side
ac = limp
gb = chuck norris

Sorry to revive an old thread but with the mounts in the pic, since the passenger side mount doesnt have the metal across the top, does it matter when you swap the drivers side to the passenger side even given that it now has the metal piece going across the top? I just got some ES inserts and the both mounts have the metal piece across the top.

cheers

should still fit, the centre shaft might be positioned differently though

I'm actually in need of mounts without the top metal piece, seems the b18c7 sits differently to my old b16a2
b18 seems to sit about 5mm higher than the b16(well, the shaft sits higher anyway)

From memory EG mounts don't have the metal across the top but EK's do.. I have a couple spare torque mounts, might try swapping my spare gbox side mount to AC side

Did you end up doing the swap vinnY with the washers?

vinnY

nah just ended up keeping the ES inserts, figured the hasport mounts do give more much vibrations than some torque mounts :p

dorikin

Yeh the torque mount doesn't do much for support..

Question, is there any way to remove the AC side torque mount without loosening the AC compressor bracket? From memory when I did it before something kept getting in the way (I think chassis rail) so the mount couldn't drop low enough..

vinnY

I've always just loosened the side engine mount and dropped the engine to get it out, too much hassle getting that ac mount with the limited space

Awesome Thanks

Just did a comparo with my spare mounts:

Driver side on the left ---- Passenger side on the right

Tube length 47mm vs 59mm

Difference 12mm (I.D is 20mm)

^ got any more of those spare? I'd buy them off ya, need the ones without the metal brace

dorikin

yeh i'll have a couple of them spares available soon.

just can't decide whether to use driver side on the A/C side with washers

OR

just fill up the passenger side with urethane/sikaflex..

if you have the 3 main mounts as solid mounts, don't bother filling them up unless they're broken
I just figured if any of the other side mounts break the torque mount will still hold the engine up instead of falling through the bay

if you're running stock mounts for the 3 mains, then definitely fill them

let me know when you have some available, keen to get them soon
though I think they're like 40bucks each on ebay

after thought edit;

looking at the mounts, that top plate thing seems to be glued on
anyone tried to separate it before?
