Hey all,

Just picked up my new toy... if it wasnt so goddamned hot, and the clouds werent looming i tell you what id still be out there, didnt want to get off it!

Great bike with EFI, shaft drive, sounds nice, looks nice and and has enough grunt to be fun, and not kill yourself...

:-)

Cant wipe the smile off my face!

The only problem is i am struggling for room in the garage!

Future mods - Vance and Hines slash cut shorties, Hypercharger and chip to suit!

enjoy the pics!

hey all,

thought i'd give an update on developments... so ive been researching ways to improve my bike, one of the first things i wanted was some improved performance and to make it sound a bit better... so after much research, i picked up a set of Vance & Hines Straightshots... got them for a third of the local price delivered to my door form the states!

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7385/img1252rq.th.jpg (http://img40.imageshack.us/i/img1252rq.jpg/)
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2935/img1255s.th.jpg (http://img40.imageshack.us/i/img1255s.jpg/)

As its Fuel Injected, im waiting on some o2 sensor eliminators as i dont want to go to the expense of a piggyback at this stage... also on order, som bafles, as these are straight pipes and apparently you lose a lot of backpressure, and consequentially torque downlow...

Also on order, a K & N filter which will sit in a modified stock airbox to open her up on the intake bit...

Cant wait to get them on!

Nice one Zilli... Forgot to PM you back on CITR regarding indicators, they sold with the lights, sorry man... How much did you pick up the bike for?

I'm looking at getting either a CBR600F4I (2003-2006) or a CB600F (2008). Hmm, not really sure about the nakedness..

Hey bud,

Yeh all good! i'm glad they all went in one hit for you!

I got the bike as a demo for 9.5... had 800kms on it... i was actually out your way on Saturday morning mate... the palmy run is my favourite drive/ride!

Yeh im not really into nakeds to be honest... self preservation is what drove me to a cruiser, and i love it to be honest... i just want it to be loud AS... cant wait for the rest of my bits to arrive

Great site.

Got the order within 5 days.

Unsure if pipes for the 400 exist yet.

I ordered the o2 sensor eliminators, baffles and k&n from

also just an FYI... http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/index.php is an amazing resource for Shadowriders...

I think the frame and attachments on the vt400is exactly the same as the bigger 750 shadow, so accessory wise you can use the same part as a vt750 aero (thats what theyre called in the US)

Yeah, I've been reading a bit on the ShadowRiders forum... The frame is exactly the same as the 750 but I'm not too sure about the engine bits i.e Air Filter and exhaust... Need to find answers to those!~

Just wondering if it would fit in my bike.. It sucks air from the inside of the filter and releases it on the outside right?

What's the model number? :)....... Maybe I will bring my OEM filter down and see if they measure up....

Zilli
29-11-2009, 12:18 PM
hey mate, the part number is HA-7504... im relatively sure the airbox is exactly the same on both bikes... cant be certain but they look exactly the same... to be honest i havent played with the box much so unsure of its design in terms of the in-out you explained... i do know im buying a dremel (always wanted one!) to do some mods to the intake at the same time as i put the filter in...

Zilli

here is how the bike is sitting now after a marathin 6 hour effort (with lost of beers along the way) on Friday night... going in to do some more today, hopefully finish it off

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9931/img1341ad.th.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/img1341ad.jpg/)

we started by removing the stock pipes, with a view to putting the new ones on... but soon realised if we didnt put the forward control extensions on before we put the new pipes on we'd have to remove the front pipe again...

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9074/stockpipes.th.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/stockpipes.jpg/)

So we installed the brake side forward control extension... couldnt believe the quality... for 200 australia, compared to 500+ for mapalms etc... my vision for this bike is to make it nicer to ride on a budget... mapalms will wait for the harley once i am 100% confident riding!

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1963/img1345yd.th.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/img1345yd.jpg/)
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7356/img1343sw.th.jpg (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/img1343sw.jpg/)

Amazing difference... 6" further forward and higher than the stock ones too... which means i wont peg it as much anymore! this is going to be my favourite mod, i can tell already... at the moment i feel like im sitting on the toilet while riding...!

We started putting the Vance and Hines straightshots together, and i can see why shops charge so much labour... quite fiddly... but im sure they'll be worth it in the end...

more updates to come soon

Good job dude!!!...

Let us know how the V&H sound~~~ The ones I've found on the internet do no justice even with good speakers!

Gosh.. Your photo sizes are huge :P

Zilli

the sound is pretty sick... i put in the quiet baffles before i even started it, as i read you lose quite a bit of backpressure resulting in huge loss of performance. COnsidering the thing is slow as anyway i didnt want to risk this!

On idle it sounds weird to be honest, doesnt have that crackle and pop of a big bore twin motor, it kinda sound more like a car, in that its deep. but on throttle it really does sound beautiful, and it has given it a bit more urge without losing low down torque

The problem i have at the moment is that i was sent what seem to be the incorrect O2 sensor eliminators... what i was sent was a male plug, and what i have remaining at the end of the loom from the ECU is a male plug... so i rode with with the FI light on. Not an issue, just a warning i've read...

anyway hopefully get some vids and pics up this weekend

so i took the morning of the second day of my well deserved 4 day break to do an oil change and do my intake mod on the bike.

I haven't got any pictures, but i thought i'd do a write up.

I got a 4 litre bottle of Honda oem 10w30 motorcycle oil from the local dealer, which cost $60! plus an OEM filter which cost $25!!!!!!!! anyway after much swearing and agitation, i got the oil change done... did realise how little room there is under there! and i had to put a screwdriver through the filter as the room limitation plus tightness (hand tight is enough ffs) meant my tool (oil filter tool!) couldn't do the job

Anyway on to the exciting stuff, i planned to do a filter change to a K&N, and reading numerous forums (these bikes are VERY popular in the states, and have endless mods!) i found that removal of the stock intake snorkel and resonator, coupled with the "bean box" mod, which is essentially widening of the intake at the stock bok to match the size of the filter, would net me some extra grunt...

So i removed the box, which was a pain as the resonator was stuck up inside the tank, and there was one screw that obviously was put on when the tank was OFF! i realised that the later model had an enlarged intake that was the same size as the filter, so there was no need for my newly purchased air die grinder!

anyway that stupid resonator require movement of the tank, which luckily enough was one screw under the seat, and help from the old man...

just took it for a ride, and i have to say the difference is noticable, its not setting the world on fire, but then it was a slow bike anyway... seems i've gain some midrange and definite top end, the bike just feels more responsive and has more urge pulling through gears... so for the price of a filter i probably gained a kw or two LOL

anyhway, down the track i'll be looking at a tornado intake (essentially an exposed pod pointing forward), with a power comander to tune my A/F.... happy boy today!

end result, two resonators on the shelf in the garage from two Honda, one with 4 wheels one with two!

Interesting , so from a new bike with warranty , you are allowed diy servicing as long oem parts and fluids are used ?

I'm still 50/50 about the cb400

it was a demo with 1200 kms.... 2007 model! ran out of warranty 6 months ago...

have you been to test ride it yet?

Hows the shadow going Zilli? I'm thinking of getting a VT600 and turning it in to a custom bobber, something like this (Pulled from Shadow Riders.net)
