Does anyone notice a weird hissing, or air sucking sound, when they take their Euro into VTEC?? This never happend to me before, and it's been doing that, I think, just past the 12,000km mark (14,000 km now). First I though it was my K&N filter, but I put that in around the 5000km mark. Performance wise, no difference, but it's been bothering me, like when I take it to redline something gonna blow/go wrong on me.

Might listen more carefully next time when I have a chance to "VTEC" it.

I get that all the time when I spool the car up... :)... Even with my CAI kit..

Just sucking more air, nothing to worry about.

Your car blew it's nose one day and it now breathes better.

Had another run this morning, and I realised that it only happens past 6K to redline. So yeah, not big of a problem cos getting from 6-7K rpm only takes around 2 seconds :p

Getting from 6000 to 7000 takes 2 seconds? Are you sure? Mine seems to go from 6000 to 7000 in less than 1 second in 1st gear.

Have you guys heard that metallic sound at VTEC 6000rpm near the glove box? It sounds like ball bearings being shaken around in a can? My car used to make this sound fairly often. Apparently it is the stainless steel timing chain whirring around.

Ever since I changed my oil at 10k to Castrol Formula R it has stopped making that sound - so the viscoscity in the Formulat R must make a difference. .

Well my Euro is auto, and 2 seconds is just a guestimate.

Hey yfin, I think that's what the sound is!! "Ball bearings being shaken around". So it's not just me that can hear it.

It must be the viscoscity of the oil as I swear to you my car used to do this all the time at 6000rpm. Since changing oil at 10,000 it hasn't done it since (now 14,500kms). There is nothing particularly special about Castrol Formula R oil but it is obviously a different viscoscity to the Honda/Castrol FMX oil they put in at my 1000km service. I used to get worried about that sound as it is rather metallic - it doesn't sound like air or "hissing" at all.

Sounds of ball bearings been shaken around is similar to pinging/engine knock

Anyway...I didn't know the Euro has a timing chain as opposed to a belt, and if it is this that is making the noise......then the oil used in the motor will not affect it (oil doesn't go anywhere near the timing belt/chain)

Hmmm interesting - the sound only happens at 6000rpm-7000rpm - don't think it is pinging/enging knock especially as I have only run on 98ron..

My reference to it possibly being the timing chain was something someone suggested on the TSX web site - there have been lots of suggestions about this but no one can quite work out exactly what is causing the sound... Anyway, changing the oil worked for me.. Yeah - and as far as I am aware a timing chain is used..

I've personally noticed that whistling sucking air sound just recently, i think the noise became a lot more apparent around the 4000Km mark. Only when you accelerate, it's nice to hear :p, and you hear it even before vtec kicks in, at least in my case :p

what do you mean by "when the vtec kicks in" My euro goes all out when going up a hill, In intense accelerations the euro actually tends to wait half a seconds before it takes off for some reason. May be its just the auto.

It's when the VTEC system changes from the smaller lobe to the larger high lift load. It happens at 6000rpm.

Guys - check this out - looks like someone has found the answer to that ball-bearing in a can sound I hear around 6000rpm sometimes.

See posts 79 and 80. Interesting to see whether turning the climate control down to lowest setting will work.

Seem like that problem isn't as bad now, but I'll give that a try anyway.

nothing to be worried about.. the hissing sound is the sound of vtec engaging.. happens ard the vtec switchover repm.

quite a number of honda's have this sound.. some are very soft, while some can be louder.

if you are hearing a ball bearing noise it's pinging for sure...trust me
