if your going for a more classier look, the 5th gen is the way to go, but if you want a more sportier look go the 4th gen, both models have there advantages and disadvantages.

You should also look at the differences within each generation.

The 4th Gen came with 3 models in Australia.
S - The Base model with the 2.2L F22A engine
Si - Came with the less performance orientated 2.3L H23A engine.
Vti-R - Introduced in Aus in 1994 came with the 2.2L H22A VTEC engine, and alloy wheels (there is more but I can't think of it :()

Some of these models also came with 4ws (4 Wheel Steer).

There was also a Si-VTEC which is a JDM import. Which came with extras such as climate control, electric folding windows, back windscreen wiper etc

The 5th Gen game in 3 models as well in Australia and a different shape (Basically a renewed classier look of the 3rd Gen Preludes).
Si - Base model for the 5th gens with the 2.2L F22B
Vti-R - Basically the same as the 4th gen with the H22a VTEC engine
ATTS - Known as Active Torque Transfer System gave the car better handling however this can be argued. Also had different alloys to the Vti-R model.

I know I have missed a lot but I have basically brain dumped what I can think of. I'm sure other people can fill in the gaps

5th gen preludes are much nicer. they look better, theyre much nicer trimmed and theyre newer. My friend has 5th gen ATTS and its awesome. why would u settle for a older car when u can have a newer one?

besides, 4th gens look like lancers from behind

Don't you mean lancers look like 4g's from behind, after all 4g's are older than those lancers. .:p

Too bad noone sees it that way :P
Either way its too boring for the front end on them. In my opinion, the shape of the 5th gen is the best of the lot. Its front end is debatable but its up to personal preference. I for one like it.

i completely agree:thumbsup:

and 4th gens do remind oneself of a lancer... especially when they have altezza lights...

altezza lights = fail:thumbdwn:

But what about their stock lights?

Good thing the 5th gen harks back to the 3rd gen shape huh? :)

Likewise can be said of the 5gen. I hate the front of the 5g's, rear is ok but not the best.

I agree, altezzas are gross.

There is also vast differences in interior design. The 4Gs have a fairly unique dash design, whereas the 5g dash is way more conservative.

shift linkages

yeah true that. me and rbk 212 replaced the shifter in his 5th gen. its operated by cables inside rather than a more traditional bar underneath the car

IMO (i admit i'm biased as i own one) BUTT the 4th gen looks better and i love the unique dash.

In the end its upto personal preference and depends on how the car has been treated during its life-time.
