the scenario is; i need really stiff suspension and a balanced ride to correct the extra weight the h22 has added to the front end of my car.

saw a set of koni adjustable shocks which allow for damper/height adjustment but want to know how these rate compared to fully adjustable coilovers...

thanks,
pap

These are only struts, coil overs has springs combo'd together with struts

Koni's are good but if its the sag from the heavy engine you wanna correct. You need to get the coil overs as they should have stiffer springs to hold the car up.

I heart the SSS

I believe Koni Yellow is only damper adjustable, not height!

they are height adjustable, only in ~1.25" steps thou.

coilover or spring/shock combo, the springs WILL sag over time either way. I suggest getting a premium track inspired (but still ok for street) coilover simply to avoid hassle of height adjustment.

for your info (and ill try to find the thread) a h22a only weighs something like 15-25kilos more than a b18c, nothing like the 80 that most people think

there is even a n EF civic (base weight like 850 kilos) with a h22a and it is a circuit car and it goes well, has no probs with extra weight so i doubt an ej8 will have much problems :) so you know before you go spending money you might not need to

go the Konis

after 2 yrs still as new and driven around 50xxxks on them with no problems

stiff as youd want it for the street on the firmest setting, I'll give ya a demo in my car if ya want

yer but im comparing the weight of the new engine to a d16 not b18c. but your right theyr only marginally heavier then b18.

but basically what your all saying is that im kinda getting "half a coilover" in that i aint getting a spring. whereas coilover is the combo where the spring has been specifically engineered for the strut. and its height adjustable bla bla

hardly need coilovers for daily driving imo

plus with the shitty exchage all are way over priced atm if you're getting them from overseas...

hell installed with Koni springs it be hard pressed being over 1600 in and out at a reputable place such as Fulcrum who will be able to give you a warranty as well as supply the parts

ahhh im in the same boat. looking to upgrade my sussy.
But IMO screw forking out 800+ just for shocks. then plus springs. thats a coilover price. Im leaning towards coilover, but i agree i dont rly need for street use. Im scared as they will be too stiff ( as i am very fussy and do alot of driving ).

Sorry to hi-jack a little.

True coilovers prices have gone up, but so has springs and shocks... ( if u have 2 do any waiting 4 a good brand/ur model to come in )

goodluck, let us know that u decide

im thinking skunk2 is the way to go. seems like the best value for money. offers me the height and damper controls to get me the right clearance and stiffness

JohnL, it was that article that made me want to go and buy Bilstein non-adjustable shocks. However they are too $$$...

same with my accord... 2.5" lowered on all four, used them for around 50,000 kms approx. no leaks nothing.

every car I will ever have will have em, if only their brand of springs were lower with the same spring rate, but that's another sotry altogether

I know exactly where you're coming from, but from everyhthing I've read and heard over the years Koni is the best of the rest by a long way...
