Hey guys. Just currently looking at the market for a 93'-99' Dc2 Vti-r or a Gsi. I am aware that the Vti-r has the better engine and is slightly more expensive than what Gsi's can go for but still confused what to go for.
Im just curious on whether the GSI would even compare to the Vti-r or is it just better to just spend that little more and get the Vti-r. Feedback would be great

Thanks,

Darren

Never driven a Gsi.. however i always burn them in my vti-r ... how many other 1.8 litre cars of that era keep screaming after the 6k rev mark? :D

Just spend a bit more on VTi-R. You won't regret getting that car as oppose to GSi. unless u r after outlook and daily driving and not power or speed. Else, go for VTi-R bro. It's bang for buck!

its worth it 2 spend a little more 2 get a vtir, it goes much more better if u tune it up right... havnt really been in any gsiz, from what i know they are basically the same as vtirs, until the vtec crossover.

yeah true. b18b2 is a good engine up untill 6k were it loses power
this is 0-100 of my old engine.

When buying a dc2/4/r these days, set yourself a budget for your car...

~8k for GSi's
~12k for VtiR's
~18k for Type R's

Also factor in insurance, transfer fees, checks, rego etc.

(biased opinion) so your paying 4k extra for a vtec head, how much can u get a vtec head for? i don't see how that's best bang for you buck. The gsi is less likely to have been thrashed as well.

simple

no mods & daily driven - GSI
mods & fast driven - VTIR

lol 4grand will get you a new VTi-R engine, a VTiR head will cost you 400-700 either b16/18 but you still need to do other stuff to get it running properly.. Well if you really bargain out a gsi (5k or less) you can build a b20vtec+vtec gearbox for 5grand and drop that in, which is what im doing currently for my mate. But if you are sensible just get the VTiR and be happy with it, unless you really build your motor both of them are slow az... that is untill you take them to the tracks.

ive had the gsi previously and now have a vtir.
stick with the vtir unless you want to do what the guys above suggested.
which sounds pretty good. either way spend the money and get vtec.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Makes me think more into what i actually want to do with it once i get one. Still heading more to the Vti-r but as gsi_psi said, i could find a gsi for under 5g say and then work on that. I'll keep posted :p

Another problem i have is getting rid of my current car. Im trying to sell it in the process of gettin another so i guess ill see how i go

eyy dont get me wrong theirs nothing wrong with the b18b2 we can still grab some of you vtirs with a little length :P and it does still go just as hard but without as much torque as the vtec....

also able to do lsvtec which if done correctly with the right parts etc can be almost near the type r specs so ive been told or you can just boost the b18b2 in the GSI

My car started life as a gsi, but then i got a vtir front cut and whacked that in it. Much better. Its not just a different head either, as the vtir has a shorter ratio box in it, and i'm pretty sure the internals are a bit stronger.
