i put a b18c2 on my eg and got jaggged
i gotta do inspection, engineers etc.
easier to do b20 IMO, that way youll prob just need an inspection which is only like 200 bucks comapred to 2k for engineering.
really depends - its luck mate

first step is engine capacity.
in (NSW) , it states you can increase engine capacity by +15% max and not have to engineer it. That is , the brakes should be designed to hold the extra power
On a 1.6 standard this is not an issue.
But if you have a 1.3 or a 1.5 you can only install an engine up to 1725cc - just under a 1.8 b18c2 or b18c7. You then require to upgrade the brakes atleast then require engineering.

speak with a Blue Sliping place. It can be hard at times, but i'm pretty sure for a b20 if you wanted to register it properly you would need to engineer it.
Its about the capacity, vtec has nothing to do with it.

I got lucky with mine, went from D15b7 to B20b without any issues. Put in the engine change forms and they sent me out new rego sticker about 2 weeks later with B20b engine number. But others I know have needed full roadworthy inspections or engineers cert. They are really inconsisent when it comes to this sort of stuff in Adelaide, it's like a lucky dip, all you can do is fill out the appropriate forms and hope for the best. IMO you would have a better shot with a B20b than a B18cR since they do go by power/torque specs in Adelaide AFAIK.

i was thinking b18 was easier since it has a smaller displacement.. didnt know they'd check so clearly on the power and stuff..
my car is registered as a b18.. dunno how it got registered though..

no receipts.
jsut need to know the size and type of engine before hand to what you have now.
record the VIN number, previous engine number, new engine number any other modifications done such as brakes etc...
basically what the form asks you, fill it in, try and give then as little information as possible
then you wait..
going from a GSi motor to a B20, you shoudl have it registered no problems...
the power difference is what they look at.

They actually look at increase in capacity in NSW (not power), since the B20 is less than 15% increase in capacity over 1.8 it should be fine (as long as you're not a P-plater since performance mods are illegal).

would it be a performance mod though? because according to them a B20 is 130hp. which is actually lower than a B18B2 (142hp)

Pretty sure it would be bcause regardless of the numbers, its an engine modification.
