Finally the hearsay is true.

Can't say we didn't see it coming. 2009 is going to be a tough year worldwide financially IMO.

I should go buy a S2000 now since the market value will increase due to this. Sad day for the S2000 but hopefully it gets replaced with something similar.

Honda out of F1
Honda pulls back NSX
Honda pulls back new S2000
Honda retires S2000
All this = lots of saved up $$$
Now i can't wait to see what they're bringing out next!
If they can make something like an S2000 10 years ago, who knows what they can do in a few years time!
15k revving electric motor?
Either way, great car.

Its not really a matter of money saved, more so money not wasted on labor and having excess supply of cars sitting dormant in dealerships.

Something like the NSXR they did a while back. Not that I could afford one, but something like a JGTC car for the road...........tasty!

i reckon honda pulls back because they trying to compete with nissan,,,

nissan just release new 370z, low 6s car with 7.7 /100 fuel consumption,...

i definately would go buy new nissan 370z, then new s2k,,, without doubt

performance + low fuel consumption thats' kind of car that i am looking for

but i just dont understand, how honda mkting works, whos going to buy new s2k for 70k these day while you can have 2nd for more than half price, unless they put extra kw into it than previous, so it;s very good idea if they retire s2k.

Damn you just got me googling for pictures...too bad I couldn't find anything...

Well didn't Honda Australia only sell 15 S2000's last year? Not much revenue is it...

I've always been a honda fan but they're just crushed my image and respect for them by pulling out of EVERYTHING related to motorsport or sports cars. What happened to their racing heritage?

i miss the days when sports cars were popping up everywhere...well like the 90's. Cars like Supra, Skyline, Silvia, ZED, ITR, Celica, NSX, RX-7, GTO, FTO as well as the EVO/STI. These days its just the 4WD rivalry between EVO/STi and the 2-seater roadster/coupe rivalry between S2k and the Zed.

Let's not forget that the performance figures of a lot of those older cars are actually slightly higher than the cars available today, with the exception of the EVO/STi's which have been continually developed.

I know some of the cars are in a different class such as Skyline and Supra, being 6-cylinder TT but how about cars like the MR2 turbo that was released in '89. The '93+ models with the revised ecu could sprint to 100 in 5.5s and storm the 1/4 mile in just 13.6s in factory trim. Fuel economy? under 9.5L/100km's.

Sure sports cars aren't the best avenue for carmakers to invest in but what's happened in the past 10 years? we have had few gems like the S2k and the GTR but what about the rest? Maybe part of the reason that people don't buy sports cars these days is because they're just no better than the ones made 10-20 years ago which are available for a fraction of the price.

It is a sad day for Honda and for international motoring.

they are adapting to the market, and to regulatory requirements and drivers. THey are turning into Toyota...

It's about fukin time they stop the production. This car's been around for 10 years and they are still selling it at the full price with little or no cosmetic and technology input.

I agree, Honda used to be different..
Now they are just churning out boring soulless cars like most of the other company's.. What ever happened to the screaming vtec light weight gems of the 90's..

And don't say CRZ.. 108kw 1.8.. pfft that's not Classic Honda.
If your gonna make an impact with a sporty hybrid that we can call a new CRX.. it should rev past 8k and should be 140+ kw not including what ever the IMA system will provide.. At least.

i think that the 90's were the best years for all japanese car manufacturers in terms of sports cars not just honda. as the market changes the manufacturers also have to adapt as someone mentioned ealier but car enthuisiasts like us are the ones who suffer the most:(

They'll eventually sell from showroom floors by floor managers looking to get rid of them at slightly discounted prices to make way for new stock.

Honda Australia actually stopped bringing S2000s in, in 2004, IIRC. Thereafter, they were only imported into the country by customer order only. The models in showroom floors are most likely second-hand if you see them.
