i highly doubt you'll really need a short shifter, since most civics have rather short throws anyway.
if you buy the shifter on ebay, it should have everything you need, minus the tools to install it.

you just need a short shifter kit.
The skunk2 dual-bend one i got came with everything i needed.
I just followed the DIY on ozhonda here: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15486&highlight=B%26amp%3BM+Short+shifter (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15486&highlight=B%26amp%3BM+Short+shifter)
Installation took me 2 hours as it was my first DIY job and there were these 2 screws with rectangle flat heads that took me ages to take off. Apart from that you'll fly with the rest of the installation.
I know a place that sells their own brand dual shifter for cheap if you dont want skunk2. PM me if you want.

I'd like someone to clarify the pros and cons
make sure you get a carbon steel one if you do so it doesnt snap off, it has happened to ppl before funnily/unfortunately enough

just need the shifter in most cases. May need some O rings but you can get away without them.
Other thing you can buy is a polyurethane bush kit for it to make it feel better.
But its not a hard job 1/2hr - 1 hr on ground. about 15Min on hoist

Will the stock shifter have O-rings and bush kit? If i dont get new ones, will the short shift kit make putting into gear stiffer?
A short shifter stick came with my car and ive been willing to install it (its just the stick with bearings so im not sure if i need anything else). The DIY job looks pretty straight forward.

short shifter ftw. my billet aluminum one is still going strong. can't see how it would snap. its solid metal and a humans arm is only so strong.

What's the O rings?
i know the Bush kit is still re-useable on the stock setup. You just need to take off the old gear stick, and put your new one inside. Just need to lube the new stick and put everything back on and your done.

hey turtle,
imo, nothing wrong with good short shifters.
ive got my skunk2 one installed and it doesnt feel like its gonna break my gear box.
feels exactly the same as stock, just the throw is shorter and the stick itself sits shorter.

it wont blow your box, providing you don't try to shift like a race car driver.
You can blow a box with the OEM shifter just as easily as an aftermarket one.
i installed the bushes in my OEM shifter (the del sol shift is pretty short stock). It made a nice difference. Bushes for the stabaliser bar were included as well.

where do you get the bushes from?

Cheers ive ordered the bushes off JDM yard.
nice.. you'll notice the difference. Have it on my ITR shift linkage set up.

So i received the energy bushes today. Something doesnt match up though. Why are the bushing massive compared to the shifter? The sleeve doesnt fit either. Am i missing something?

Im starting to think the previous owner of the car threw the wrong shifter in did a dodgy dodgy on me.
or did jdm yard send me the wrong part?
The bushing also has nothing to do with the shifter size because the bushing go onto the actual shift linkages, check on the bushing box see if its the right application. but yeh mine looked like this:

but yeh was my old set up.. now ITR shift linkages ftw.

did you grease them by any chance?
how does your shift feel?
i changed my short shifter but i didnt replace the bushings, i used the old ones..
yeh mate you HAVE to grease them or else I believe wont be as smooth/quiet. And yes if feels pretty precise with little play. Well hmm I coudn't really compare myself honestly because previously I had stock B series shift linkage with a shaved down stock shifter ( previous owner) then i replaced it with the B&M and it felt pretty good but i didnt like how it sat. Then I changed to ITR shift linkages(still utilising ES bushing) shortly after, like a few days. And it felt awesome. everything sat and felt good. But how do you feel yourself personally with the short shifter? $30 for the bushing cant really hurt.

Okay i managed to install the SS kit and bushing today. Took me about 2 hours with a help of a mate. Its really fun to drive, the shift length feels like it was cut in half.. more than i expected. Took me about 5 mins of driving to get used to.
Its really hard putting it into reverse from a stand still.

guys ive installed my short shifter but now it makes a weird noise when i put it in gear and dont hold the gear stick, its like a buzzing noise,
it gets annoying,
so when i hold the gearstick its alrite, doesnt make any noise at all.
also i remember when removing the old gear stick there were 2 kinda like O rings where the gearstick is.
do i also need to replace that too?
ive got a single bend on it with a s2 gearnob purchased from shift performance,
all bolds and nuts correctly in just not sure wat else could be the problem i love the shifting now but hate the noise that comes wit it
flipfire

You probably forgot to put one of the O rings back causing it to hit metal to metal and making that noise.
turtle187
06-04-2009, 04:57 PM
the O rings dont fit in tho? there too tight the OEM ones
do i need to purchase different ones?

if you dont put back the rubber washers, does it affect the car in anyway
turtle187
06-04-2009, 08:29 PM
i think the washers help u put it in gears better and reduces noise when switching gears, im loving the shortshifter buh just the noise pissing me off and sometimes its hard to put into gear
will keep u guys updated on this
