Hi guys, I got the above noob question, I tried searching for similar thread but nothing come up under oil.

So what I want to know is, any engine oil should be fine for the car? and what is a good method for adding the oil as I do not have any flask tools for doing it.

At the moment, the oil indicator keeps going on and off, I checked the engine oil and its almost dry up. Are there any simple DIY tips I can use to save some cash?

Or would you recommend me going to a specialist?

cheers

Castrol ones aren't too bad. Hard to say which one to use as you haven't specified how many kms your car has racked up.

Don't really need a funnel, just pour it by the bottle slowly and make sure you some clothe with you to wipe off any of the spill. Switch the car on and wait for a bit for oil to get around. Check the dipstick to see if there is enough in there. If not just add some more in etc.

Dont use 5w30, thats a bit thin for the age and klms of your motor.

Considering you say its low on oil (using oil most likely) you would tend to use something thicker like 10w40 or 10w50 to fill in the 'gaps'.

No need for a synthetic oil either, a mineral or semi-synthetic will be fine

OK

Cheers, as for just topping it up without draining it would be fine right???

as a temp fix yes it will be fine

Get it changed soon though with some fresh oil at the correct viscosity. Its easy, just follow that diy posted above

when are u checking ur dip stick? is it after driving or long before u go for a drive? reason i ask is because your oil light comes on according to ur oil pressure, not by how much oil is in ur sump.

if u check ur dipstick after a drive, the oil is still in the head and u'll get a low reading.
