Im pretty sure its my clutch but someone told me it could be my timeing belt.. When i plant my foot it sometimes randomly revs till you take your foot of the throttle.. I know they slip in auto's but i dont think thats happening in my car lol. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and its a 2001 s2000 with roughly 68,000 ks now lol.

definatly ur clutch is slipping................too much rev dump.........lol

ONE way to test.............do 60 and put it in 5th and foot to the floor, as it will be under massive load..............it should slip (free rev) this is one indication the clutch is gone......

lol........if u cruze it it should be okay for a month maybe more.......

it will slip a lot more in the heat........the more heat and the longer u sit in traffice, the more heat it will absorbe...........

just take it easy and organise a replacement,............

Depending on what clutch and combo you want it can range from 300 - 3000.
You can also upgrade to a lightened flywheel, lots of benefits there, main thing is your car revs up a little quicker :)

yeah well i thought they were retarded when they told me but meh lol. yeah im going to dump in a heavy duty one just for a week or so i ****en miss hammering my car :( lol.

in that case maybe u should just get the cheapest clutch u can.

if you were gonna change your clutch then may as well get a lighter fly wheel at the same time, but it really depends on how long you gonna keep the car, if you gonna sell it soon then just get a cheap clutch

F20C
31-01-2009, 03:32 PM
nah im not going to sell it soon just strapped for cash at the moment and i think ill just chuck in a heavy duty one for the time being till i have 3grand for a light flywheel aswell as clutch :P

u can pick up a simple hd clutch and a chrome moly wheelwheel for under 1k.

Careful buying a cheapy though, as i've witnessed major clutch failures when cheap ones have been used. It may be worthwhile parking it till you get a decent one especially if your into giving your car heaps. The more expensive clutch will be cheaper in the long run.

makes sense JAP but im looking at anything under a grand so im guessing that will get me something decent wouldnt it? i just need something so when i need to over take some idiot and im close to another car i can swerve in :P not overly doing it like i normally would with my normal clutch lol.

I think F20C, all you need is a Exedy OEM replacement clutch, will cost you a little over 300. Installations will cost you around 400ish unless you know someone.
And you can weave through traffic all you want :D

F20C
01-02-2009, 04:05 PM
haha yeah i get free installation on anything i buy lol. and discounts on most things. =)

correct me if im wrong, but if he replaces with another stock one he'll still get clutch buzz, as if he went after market HD it would go away???

vyets
01-02-2009, 10:15 PM
Dosen't have to be aftermarket "heavy duty" as long as its not 1999 - 2003 oem it should be fine.
The exedy oem replacement is just like a stock clutch without the "honda" price tag.

If you get discounts and free installation f20c, you should be able to get basically a new clutch for something like 200 bucks bargain!

01-02-2009, 11:57 PM
sweet! whats this clutch buzz though? so exedy sell oem after market clutches for my model s2000? cause i just had a basic normal clutch that came with the car lol.

NVD52K
02-02-2009, 12:43 AM
i have a toda clutch kit with flywheel and theres still clutch buzz in that thing lol even worse

JAP-S2K
02-02-2009, 06:32 PM
As do I! i think the theory behind the buzzless clutch is a myth. True there's less buzz on the '04+ models, However the problem was mainly caused by design and the fact that S2K clutches are a pull type, so most of the buzz is by the release bearing and how well it sits in the fingers of the pressure plate. Thats why new clutch = no buzz. High kms or hard driving = noisy.

JAP-S2K

Also all genuine clutches from Honda are the buzz-LESS clutch. So there's little chance you'll end up with an 99-03.

ok so when i get a new clutch from EXEDY as its only going to be a replacement, what should i be asking for..?

Heavy rev dumping! Ahh those poor driveshafts.

vyets

With that kind of abuse, I'm sure the drift shafts are the least of your problems.

Note that a TSB to fix the clutch "buzz" was issued in 2001. From 2002, this issue was fixed in new S2000s. It can potentially happen in any model really, but the known culprits existed in the 1999/2000-2001 models.

Dosen't have to be aftermarket "heavy duty" as long as its not 1999 - 2003 oem it should be fine.

Dude diffs and driveshafts are like elastic bands, some break easily, some take some punishment. Drifting killed mine more than once. I actually managed to break an inner joint and snap 4 teeth on the crown wheel from doing a 9K launch. Ha Ha! Ah the sound of breaking metal. I'm seriously considering fitting an S15 diff, with custom billet inner joints. Then there shouldn't be any prob's.

ludecrs
23-02-2009, 08:02 PM
One of the guys up here has a custom S13 diff fitted. Theres a big thread on it here on OzHonda IIRC ; but he still managed to break it eventually.

24-02-2009, 12:18 AM
lol.. well i kind of dont launch passed 5 now.. kinda scared it will happen to me.. i have enough power to catch up anywaay most things in melb suck ass so meh lol. like today a VNSS pulled up next to me i launched at 4 and supprisngly i got wheel spin.. never used to get that on bald tyres even rofl.. but anyway he got the better start from 2nd gear onwards i left him for dead.

JAP-S2K
24-02-2009, 08:46 PM
Yeah i seen the same, as the nissan crown wheels are also renouned for cracking/breaking, i guess if your out to break something, it's bound to happen. It's not that the factory honda diffs are shit, it just we all love to try and fit 255's on the rear with super sticky tyres, and sort of wonder why they break.

F20C
25-02-2009, 03:33 AM
lol wow 255.. i thought i was the only one on 255's on an s2000... every s2000 i've seen in melb except 2 have been on 225s i think..

I have replaced one clutch with a stock Honda it’s now great.
I am also getting my drive shafts swapped around due to vibration (cogs wear on one side)
my car has 90K on the clock and I don’t drive slow and drive up the mountain to Tamworth regularly  and 1 track day so far plan to do more its sick!
