hey

i drove out of my street this morning and noticed the speedo at 0...
a few km into the drive i turned on my air con to see what happens..it still works. everything seems to work fine.

i then turned on my headlights while driving and the engine light came on. that was very odd. maybe it was just a coincidence and the headlights don't have anything to do with it.

engine check light stayed on til i got to the mechanic a few km later...the engine check light hasn't come on since i turned off the car.

basically speedo stays at 0, trip meter and odometer didn't move. the car seems to drive fine still.

mechanic said it could be a speedo sensor inside the gear box?

is there a fuse for this? i haven't checked under the dashboard yet.

vtec didn't want to engage in first gear as well i guess cause the speed is zero.

was the vss plug checked? i had the exact same issue with my speedo not working or sumtimes being jumpy, and it turned out to be the vss plug only half plugged in.
also check the plug connectors for gunk and crap that may have built up.

thanks for the reply
i just managedd to short the service connector..
yes my VSS is screwed up...or unplugged? but can't be..

i had 1 long light and 7 short...according to a list on a website it means VSS sensor.

so any idea how much a VSS sensor is?

where exactly is the vss plug so i can check.

the vss is located sort of under the throttle body. not sure how much a replacement will cost, best to call up wreckers to get an idea.

the VSS is located directly above the diff housing , (where the driveshafts join in the middle.)

It maybe disconnected , loose or perhaps liquid or moisture is inside giving a voltage error of sorts

easy to check out

well was still working when i came home last night.
started car this morning, turned out of driveway and noticed speedo wasn't moving =_=

disconnected? is that really possible?
liquid? well no oil or water could have dropped down there from what i can see

my vss is probably fried :|
it doesn't really look easy to take out. there's not much space for my hand to go down there. i think i need to remove the air intake from the throttle body to access it

heat of recent could be the culprit.

well honda said it's around $180 for a new VSS..
are there cheaper aftermarket ones out there or is one from the wreckers still okay?

you can get em from wreckers for cheap

but before that take it out and consider even pulling it apart and checking it inside. Might need a dab of grease in the magnet

yeap. will definately get my mech to give it a clean and see what happens.
so is it just a matter of removing screws/bolts then the VSS comes out?

you only need to remove 1 x 10mm headed bolt to remove the VSS from the diff housing. then unclip the loom and thats it really. slide out the lock pin on it and use a philips head screwdriver and you can take it apart
