The governing body of Formula One wants to implement further cost-cutting savings by 2010 with teams running on a $US64 million ($A99.64 million) budget.

FIA sent all teams a detailed document proposing defined regulation changes and a budget decrease that could mean a drop of up to 75 per cent for the larger manufacturers.

The proposals were sent out in December, according to Wednesday's Financial Times, shortly after Honda pulled out of the sport.

Honda, which has yet to find a buyer, had a reported budget of $US290 million ($A451.5 million) last season.

The move comes as FIA looks to continue slashing costs at a time when auto manufacturers are bearing a heavy brunt from the economic downturn.

The paper calls for the KERS energy recovery system to be used by all teams, as well as standardised parts such as gearboxes, braking systems, suspensions and wheels.

Manufacturers would also be obliged to supply technology to independent teams at a capped price should it wish to develop its own systems.

From 2010, independent teams can also purchase a standard gearbox-engine for $A10.01 million that would last for six races.

F1 is already introducing a rash of cost-cutting moves for 2009 which include a ban on in-season testing, longer-lasting engines and aerodynamic changes but without taking away from the spectacle, with the emphasis staying on the driver.

they say they wanna cost cut.. but by forcing teams to use KERS is just pissing away money. mclaren has poured over $100million into developing KERS.. cost cutting?? or full of crap? get your story straight FIA ffs!!

Just ban (track) testing - and it will make for much closer and cheaper racing.

Or they could repeat their 08 spectacle and ban overtaking - and promote race fixing through post race decisions and selective use of the saftey car. The FIA is in ungent need of an overhaul.

I agree, my own thoughts on this are.

What if the FIA were to place regulations on how much the teams can spend however with the introduction of no restrictons at all on the cars, build them as hardcore as they want. The teams could then go all out with development but only on what they were allowed to spend.. this would make the teams be more cost conscious with development therefore cutting costs all round. (imagine the crazy looking things that would be built!!!).

with all the rediculous FIA rules and without the method i described, Formula 1 has become boring and i am truly sad that the Jack Brabham days are over.. hey i wasnt even alive then... but after watching film and speaking to people who were. these were the days that formula 1 was the best!!!. bring it back!!!!.
