Just wondering who out there has had there CU2 windows tinted? Which was the best place and how dark did they go?

Got it done at the dealer. Didnt bother to muck around since there appears to be a lot of issues with tinting with the previous models.

I had mine done before delivery at a cost of $595. They are not much darker than the standard window colour (there is a legal limit).

The standard is not tinting though it is just coloured glass and doesn't give the same UV and heat protection. At least that is what the dealer said.

Got mine done at the dealers as well when I got my car, couldn't be bothered looking for a tinter later on and stuffing around. The price was probably not worth it but the actual tinting is - coming from a car that had no tinting whatsoever and the sun's rays used to bite into me! I'm typing with a black hand at the moment... :p

I got mine done from someone reputable that i was referred to. His website is http://www.247tint.com/

I had it done during a special for $130. Great job. And chose 25 sides, 35 rear.

Biggame,

Intersting that you went darker on sides but lighter on rear window. Usually people do it the other way around..

Also darkest you can legally go is 30% (means only 30% vision through the film).

Pretty sure 35% is the darkest legal.

I got mine done for $200 20% all round. Metallic reflective, life time warranty.

My tinter advised me it was 30% and also reflective (mirror) tint it illegal no matter what capacity it is in.

The tinting available at Honda looks pretty good to me. I'll either go with them or Solartint.

One thing I notices is they didn't tint behind the break light on the Euro I saw on the floor. Have you guys tinted behind the brake light?

They didn't on mine. lazy farkers.
Get it done privately - not through Honda. Make sure you demand them to do it properly!

I guess I'll go with Solartint but I'm concerned about them putting things back together properly. I don't want any rattles :(

Nah mate, don't worry. They just pull out the parcel shelf and piller covers to tint it properly.

Dealers don't do the tint them selves, they use 3rd party, quite often the closest tinter to the dealership.

I got my dealer to include tint with the car and yeah they left out the bit with the brake light. At first I was annoyed but I'm starting to like it..ie the bit that was left out.

I told me dealer SPECIFICALLY to make sure they tint the WHOLE rear window. They had NFI what I was talking about so I taught them! REMOVE the parcel shelf and then u tint the damn thing. Went to pickup my car and guess what? They left out the brake light part!?!?!? :thumbdwn:

But come to think of it now:
1. I was also afraid the 3rd party tinters won't do a proper job reinstalling the shelf etc. (people are reporting a creaking sound from the rear) and
2. They might make up some BS about it not being safe if the brake lights part was also tinted.

When I look at it now, it doesn't look too bad.

For people in Melbourne i can recommend a person who did my tinting & almost all my friend. He works for a dealer in daytime so he'll do your car after hours on weekdays or anytime on weekend. Only $170 for a sedan & he use Lluma film which the same as the one from dealer.

Can anyone post a pick of their rear window tint? Now I'm not sure if I want the full rear tinted or the brake light left untinted.....

I did 25 on the sides cause if its ever too dark i can always roll the windows down, unlike the rear which is 35 which is what the max the authorities recommend to ensure you can tell the difference between a normal car and copper through your rear view mirror.

The tinter didn't need to remove the parcel self to do tint behind the rear brake light. There's a big enough gap there to get the tool between the glass and light.

I'm begining to think it's not legal to tint over the brake light so perhaps that's why the tinters the dealers use don't.

I'll post pics next opportunity.

On my Old Accord they tinted the whole rear window and that was solartint as well.

But it does look better with it tinted i guess. I might leave mine as it is.

from the rules that I post above, they didnt mention anything about covering the brake light... and yeah, not all cars has break light behind the rear window...

I just had my CU2 tinted at Tint-a-Car (Granville) with Formula One for $465. I've used Formula One for over 13 years so I know how good it is in blocking heat. And I have never had a bubbling problem, something you get with the cheaper stuff.

As for tinting the whole rear window, the above picture speaks for itself - it looks ridiculous. I saw the pictures in another post before I had the tinting done. I told Tint-a-Car to tint the whole rear window but they confirmed that their tool can't fit between the window and the brake light. The also tried the legality speech about covering the brake light but I have the rear wing spoiler which has it's own brake light (and Honda actually remove the globe from the original brake light). The solution was to remove the rear parcel shelf myself. It's not hard and I can post the instructions on how to do if you need.

d'oh picked up my new CU2 lux navi on the weekend. i hadn't seen this thread till after. First thing i noticed at pre-delivery was the brake light area tint was missing..thought it was odd and said to the dealer dont tell me they couldn't access the area-at least he didn't try that on and said access is not the problem they just remove parcel shelf, but it was a legality about covering a brake light. who knows for sure? man i dont notice other cars like that, but know i wil pay attention now to all cars...anyway not too fussed and wont do anything about it, just happy to have my new CU2!!

Dealers and them leaving out the brake light bit. I'm another victim as well!

Also got the same story about legality from the dealer. It doesn't look that bad with the MY10 models but still a bit odd.

man i dont notice other cars like that, but know i wil pay attention now to all cars...99% of other cars on the road are actually like that. Its just that we got light coloured plastic so it stands out like dogs balls. I've noticed shit loads of other CU2's in perth like mine. I think it is just pure laziness.

Different states have different laws.... QLD is 20% according to the guy who did my tinting as well as the tinter who does them for the sales guys. Mine cost me $160 because the guy didn't have the templates already but my windows are all 20% and a brilliant job was done. Anyone on or near the Sunshine Coast interested PM me and I'll give you his number

The issue is rear brake light, not the % tint.
BTW, your 20% tint is illegal, 35% is legal there in QLD.
I so badly wanted 20% tint, but the wifey said no.....

Yes as Type-R positive says here so many of these shitty brake light jobs around Perth and it is just pure laziness and greed. In the past ALL tinting always covered the whole rear window and not leaving parts of it untinted.

I think the main reason with the CU2 brake light untinted is that it is quite difficult apparently for the tinter to remove the rear parcel shelf and even if they could do it they may end up breaking some clips in the process and fit and finish afterwards would not be as good as it was originally.

I specifically asked my tinter (Tint-A-Car) to do the brake light and they did - although this caused rattling in the rear driver side panel - presumably due to some clips being broken in the process.

In the end the broken clips, and warped rear panel was replaced by Service Dept and all is fine now.

Plus also removing rear parcel shelf putting it back etc significantly adds to the tinting time so most dealership deal tinted cars end up with no brake light tinted and it looks real shite.

^^^ The same happened with my friend in Sydney. he tint the whole rear screen, some parcel clips break, and claim warranty with the dealer.

dealer reject, reason is coz it has been broken by the tinter (eventhough my friend didnt tell the dealer who broke it, they just assume the tinter did it)

try to reason with the dealer, they said "That's why our tinter didnt tint the brake at the first place"

solution: glue the broken clip together with super glue

That's right - however depends on the tinter you may end up with more than just broken clips.

I think it's just really crap to have a car that's got a half-arsed tinting done on the rear window - whereas the MY10 is not so bad as they have an all black parcel shelf assembly including the brake light.

The untinted brakelight I think looks worse on dark coloured cars it's not so bad on say white or silver CU2s ...

I so badly wanted 20% tint, but the wifey said no.....

I've had my friend's dad who is a cop, as well as someone from the Transport Department look over it and they have both cleared it as legal. The window tint laws have a few minimum requirements and mine is borderline. Put simply, any cop who tried to get me for it would have a hard time proving that its not legal.

20% is illegal in qld. 35% max by law.
NSW cops from what ive read have got issued tools to check % window tint.
Never say never.....

And hard to prove what? Give you a defect and you have to prove LOL.
