Hi all,

Besides the obvious difference in viscosity rating, was wondering if there was any other differences between these 2 oils? They seem to brag more about the performance in the 0W-40.

But to my understanding, you get better fuel economy and performance with a lower viscosity, given that the oil is not as thick.

generally as a fuel of thumb
the older the engine gets the thicker the oil needs to be, generally for protection.
racing generally thinner.
make your choice.

5w-30 are used for high performance 4 cylinders

where

I recall reading that the process in creating the synthetic oil between these 2 is different, hence a substantial price difference.

To Quote EG30 from this thread: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-69840.html

Hydrocracked synthetic: Castrol Edge 5w-30, Castrol Edge 25w-50
PAO: Mobil1, Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40, Castrol Edge 0w-40, Motul 8100 5w-40, Royal Purple
Ester: Motul 300V, Redline.

I assume Hydrocracked < PAO < Ester (though don't ask me what each means...)

So you would recommend PAO as opposed to hydrocracked?

If you want (close to) the best, and are willing to pay for it, yes. However I use Edge 5w-30 myself currently because I bought 3 while on special ~$30.

Keeping in mind that Honda's FEO 10w-30 is highly regarded, and is a mineral based oil (I think, or maybe a blend?), the Edge 5w-30 does me fine.
