We seem to have a lot of new CU2 owners on the forums, I thought it might be a good idea to start a general CU2 thread to consolidate questions people have on the car (I know I have a ton).

What settings are you using on your sound system in your Euro?

I pretty much reduced treble to +3 and left it at that.

How about any accessories you got for the cu2.. and pics?

hey mate,

good idea on the thread, we really need our own sub forum dont we? haha
until then this will have to do.

I personally like my bass so I have my bass at +3 and Sub at +3.. thats just personal choice.

Just a question. I was on the K&N Australian website, and did a search for a filter for the new cu2. I wasnt sure if this was the one I was looking for.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2402

i dont think so, i think its for the accord, not euro. It's a shame because I cant wait until one comes out.

Thanks in advance.

Seems like you got a pretty good deal as well Denot! :D

Do you know what the reverse parking senors retail for? I'm thinking about adding them on....

For colour I was tossing up between crystal black and volcano gray, I wish Honda had a wider colour range though.

they said its $640 just for the reverse parking. so they gave me tint and matt free basically...

Nice car Euromax and a very good price too! If I was able to get a Lux at that price I would have got one.

One of my dealers had a demo lux in auto with the full body kit but wanted way too much for it. :(

This thread making me envy. While my CL9 still a very good car for me but I really keen to trade it in for CU2 but my wife wouldn't allow me and saying it was not worth it. But she's right and I'm thankful to have a wise wife :)

My Baby is five months old, Luxury Navigation, Auto. I paid over $50k on the road for it with mats, tint, mood lighting, rear spoiler and weather sheilds. I actually probably did better than that the dealer gave me a far better trade than others were offering. The change over was the deal maker.

Since added sports grill and after market alloys.

Didn't really hear a change in the engine note... :(

Got 138km on the clock and I always wait until the engine has warmed up before giving it a squirt, I'm trying to vary the revs a lot during the run in peroid.

lol yeah if youve only got 138km maybe wait for everything to settle in before thrashing it lol

but after that, thrashing will make engine more powerful! :D

I have had the headlight washers go off when I used the windscreen washers. I only did it once, so i am not sure if it is a random thing.

I know on my old car it use to be every 2nd or 3rd squirt of the windscreen washers the headlight washers would work. So it might be the same for the new euro.

i got mine last week. accord euro luxury, window tinting to max legal, floor mats, wing type spoiler, the aero front guard with fog lights came with it standard. came with 5 year warranty and road side assist and free ctp and free metallic paint (volcanic grey)
all for $43000. my mate got the exact same deal for $42000 because he got it just before the recession. the batch that my car came in cost the dealers 2 gran more, but they were willing to go halfway.

not a bad deal i say for the extras i got :)

the volcanic grey is awesome. because under lighting it looks sleek and chromish. but when its darker, it looks like ur driving a sleek black car. it even looks dark purple sometimes too under certain lighting. metallic + dark purple = sexy

i was thinking of adding the ipod accessory. does anybody know how much it costs? the honda website doesnt give prices. and does it charge your ipod? i got an iphone, i heard the power requirements are a bit different

Hi furythree, nice deal you got! I've got the ipod connector installed in my CU2 Luxury Nav but I don't have an iPhone so can't comment on that. But with the ipod it does charge while its connected. Just some more info on it:

For the ipod connector to work, you have to use specific playlists. E.g. "Honda 1" to "Honda 7" from memory. Additionally, the title of your mp3 does not appear. Once you're in a playlist, you're also not able to put it on shuffle - you can't put the ipod on shuffle as the connector will override it and whilst the manual has listed some ways of actually getting to shuffle, it hasn't worked for me :(

If you don't have any playlists named in the correct format, your ipod will still function, and it will play all MP3s located on the ipod in random order. Note that whilst this may sound like a shuffle function, it sorta is, its just that if you are in a specified playlist you can't have that playlist playback in a random order.

The advantage of having the ipod connector though would be the ability to skip to the next song.

Wow, that one looks very nice! I think my dad had a Car Bra Australia car bra for his VT Holden ages ago. The good thing about yours is that it covers the grill with mesh, whereas the acura one does not.

I'll have to fit the acura one and take a pic one day, it's a close fit but doesn't offer protection against little bugs.

Mine has 15,000 km on it and the "pinging" noise is as bad as ever. This noise has really compromised my enjoyment of my new car and by the time it's fixed my car won't be new anymore.

bk212
12-02-2009, 04:38 PM
lol - probably somewhere in between. Quite a lot of highway driving to and from work (40km each way mainly 100kmh roads). Bottom line, it was making the noise on about day 2 of ownership and is still making it now - it's a fault. Like some others I have been told by Honda that it's a "combustion noise occurring as the piston is on its way down", that a fix is coming late Feb/ early March and that I'll be notified.

Joystick

I think 'pinging' was a label initially given because that's what the engine noise sounds like. I don't think the car has a pinging problem and causing engine damage.

Below is an email from Ken Sheppard (Provided by VIDSEURO from http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99566&page=14)

Further to our phone conversation relating to the operational sound in your Honda Accord Euro, we wish to advise the following.

As you are aware the condition with your vehicle has not been assessed by the dealer as yet and therefore we are unable to confirm whether or not the condition you are experiencing is similar to some isolated reports we have received previously.

These reports are in regard to an engine operational sound, which is linked to fuel quality/specification and the electronic emissions management system, has been confirm to be from a combustion sound taking place after the programmed ignition, namely a “post combustion noise”.

As this condition takes place after the programmed ignition and with the piston on its downward stroke, there is no detrimental force or impact within the engine in your vehicle.

We appreciate this sound causes concern to some owners and as a result Honda Motors has been working on the matter and anticipates we will have a revised management program available for customer vehicles around mid to late February.

I STILL do NOT believe Honda and never heard of a POST IGNITION problem from a modern electronically injected engine...I am calling BS.

Also, now that the dealer has "fixed" my parcel shelf from the rattle, there now is a louder creaking noise when going around left hand turns and the passenger side shock is rather noisy, you know the gas escaping sound...

I cannot wait for this to come off lease so I can trade it on something built a little better...that said the equipment level is unsurpassed, pity the factory can't screw things together properly...

I'll be getting my dealer to check a fix the seat belt rattle on the 1,000km service but I'll keep you posted. Might be a couple of weeks though, only got the car last week... :(

I might try adjusted the seat belt height and having a play around with that, may give the seat belt a few tugs and see if that helps....

The cabin is now completely silent. I also mentioned that several other members of this board reported a similar problem and he is reporting this problem to Acura.'

Hi guys... just pickup my 08 CU2 black std auto on Saturday, but done 170kms already!!! ;p

so far, I'm lovin it!!!! a lot better than my FD2 before...

there are, unfortunately, some cons though...
1. The rear interior space was surprisingly smaller than the civic... I think all the 30cms longer than the FD2 goes to the engine bay :(. my bro who used to sit @ the back of the FD2, can barely fit to the CU2 (he's around 175cms tall)
2. The boot was wide, but the area where the spare tyre located looks crap. and the spare tyre cover is crap as well
3. The driving light is somewhat darker (maybe I used to drive with my foggies on)
4. I cant see the top bit of the driving display (the speedos n stuff). I cant see the high/lo beam indicator, cant see the left right signal indicator, etc. Tried to adjust the steering, but no good...

That's abt it so far... but so far I'm happy with it... VERY happy :p

Denot, I find the opposite with rear seat room. As you know I had an FD1 And there is definately more room in the rear of the CU2. The problem is the rear door opening is smaller making it harder to enter / exit.

They could have made a flat floor in the boot if a Space Saver spare was fitted as in the Luxury models. Personally i prefer having a full size spare. The Boot trimmings are much better quality than you had in the Civic.

If you play around with the Tilt / Reach / Seat Height you will find a comfortable position where you can see complete instrument panel.

hey buddah, yeah play around with the tilt and manage to move it more than I can before (a bit hard to move coz its new and I dont want to break it :p) anyway, i think the mid console (where the rear aircon is) is taking a bit of the rear space as well... well not a prob for me coz I will always be in the cokpit :p

I have the Standard Auto. My reflections:

Black looks cool but seems constantly dirty. If I could choose again, would go with the dark metallic grey
The iPod interface works well, as I can go through my iPod using the steering wheel buttons. Having said that, I expected some visual representation of the iPod on the centre display. Surely Honda could provide this...
Standard stereo rocks, and I love having a controllable sub-woofer. Where else do you get standard 10 speaker stereo, with Subwoofer, for this price?
I have Bluetooth. Receiving is easy, and surely this technology should be mandatory in Aus. (or do the cops like the revenue from the fines for using your phone!)
The engine was soooo tight when new, but loosened considerably at 500kms. Have done 4,000kms, and engine is really sweetening up.
Have had the 'pinging' noise since day 1. It is a Honda issue, no doubt about it. Detracts considerably from aura of this car.
Handling and chassis are superb, and steering is lovely
Interior design is great and works so well
In neutral/park, rev limiter kicks in at about 4500rpm. Engine is sweet at higher revs - typical Honda
Auto climate control is perfect. I have turned it off once. Mine sits on 23c no matter what the weather is, but have had it on 22c in Melbourne recently

Denot, Don't take too much notice of the first tank as dealers NEVER completely fill a tank. I seem to remember you had one of the highest consumption figures of all with your FD2. This tells me you do a lot of inner city driving & or (I hate to say it) you need to review your driving style if you want to achieve good economy.

Hi all, here's a pic of mine in Volcano Gray. Overall I like it, however, it has had the "ping like noise" from day one & I've had a speaker in the driver's side door replaced under warranty.

A quick question - did you guys get the oil changed at the 1,000 k service? I asked and the dealer said that there is no benefit in doing it & to wait for the 10k service. That does not seem quite right to me?

There is no oil change on the 1,000km service. As previously discussed here there is no way i would go 10,000km between oil changes. For me its oil change & filter every 5,000km & auto trans oil change every 20,000km

Thanks for the reply buddah51au, 10k just seems way too long on a motor that is being run in.

Is there specific oil that has to be used to retain the full warranty? I just don't want to screw my warranty on the off chance that the "ping" leads to an engine problem in the future.

Cheers

A specific oil......a very good question, but no easy answer. On my previous Honda I religiously changed oil & filter with Honda Genuine FEO Oil, & Auto trans with genuine oil as well. By doing this I was able to get my log book stamped by the dealer.

This time around i will use genuine oil & Filter @ 5,000km. After that I am seriously considering switching to Mobile 1 Synthetic, But if i do this i wont be able to get my book stamped as I would not be using genuine parts. A bit of a gimmick I think as Mobile 1 is a far better oil than the genuine mineral oil, but also far more expensive. I haven't made up my mind what way i will go yet as 5,000km for me comes around every 10 weeks on average. As I don't give the car too much of a hard time I might finish up staying with the genuine oil, get my book stamped & save money.

The other thing I do is keep all receipts for genuine parts to cover my ass for warranty, Then if there was an engine problem under warranty (which would be a first for me in over 1,000,000km in Honda's) I would like to see them try to get out of honoring the warranty.

Yep mine had this on the left hand side. Dealer said it was a known fault and they would fix it. Did a good job and moved it to the right hand side.

Also the sunroof rattles terribly and they said they would put in an anti rattle kit. Nothing changed after they supposedly fixed it so looks like another trip back to the dealer.

Very happy with the car but not all the rattles.

Just beeping sound. However the front and rear has different tones.

if you have tan leather, try to limit the amount of times you wear jeans because the dye in the jeans will eventually fade onto the leather....

in regards to everyday maintenance, I used to use ZYMOL leather cleaner with a soft zymol cotton towel the first sunday every 3 months. Make sure you vacuum the seats and all first to get any crumbs and dust and built up lint within the cracks and crevices of the leather seats before you start applying the cleaner and rubbing it everywhere.

If you're really worried abut your leather seats wearing out on the driver side (because it will obviously wear out quicker than your passenger and rear seats), then get a seat cover for it. Nothing made from nylon or polyester. try and get a cotton one, or a mixture of both poly/cotton...

Just had my 1000km service and very dissappointed. :(

My wife took it in and I went for a drive tonight and it smelt like smoke, the head lights was set to 3 not 0. Plus, I had to clean mud spots off the front bonnet!

Pretty p!ssed off with the crappy service.

They also said on the service statement about the pinging - "Noise is post-combustion ignition. Honda is aware of this issue and are currently developing a rectification."

No time frame given. :(

I'm really regarding buying the car from this dealer now, pre-sale service was crap and not servicing isn't up to par imo. Maybe I'm too harsh but the above really ticks me off!

Outstanding Buddah.

I've had high 6's on the M5/M4 in Sydney with cruise on, but nothing that low.

Although on one trip I started off with 12,s and by the time it dipped in to the 6's my passenger commented that if we kept going the tank would start to refill itself!

buddah51au
11-03-2009, 06:48 PM
The crazy thing about it all is when you leave the Service Station the Trip Computer registers high 30's, which i guess is understandable as it shows how much fuel you use to get up to speed. At 1 stage yesterday it was reading 6.2, but a few hills killed that before i could take a picture. 1 day i might have to do the 1600km trip to Sydney to see how good it really is.

Before Satnav was introduced in the Australian Honda Accord Euro.

The CL9 glove box is too small to house the manual and "gloves". My salesperson told me at delivery that it was supposed to be kept in the seat pocket. A different salesperson told my wife the same thing when she bought her Jazz (which she no longer has).

Hello Ma..... I mean Merlin086. My car still has the stock '04 shocks but something strange happened on the way to the forum last night (old Roman saying). The ride went all jiggly and rigid at the left-front corner. The Honda-bod reckons it might be a seized shock.

My car still has the nice rims that you sold to me (thanks again). I've reduced the tyre size to 205/50R17 (same diameter as the 225's) and the tramlining has gone. My theory about the lower polar moment of inertia of the contact patch of the wider 225/45R17 seems to be holding. The 225's contact patch is wider whereas the 205/50R17 has the same contact patch shape as the 205/55R16 original equipment tyre.

There's no great loss of grip and being able to go where pointed is a bonus.

Glad you finally have the tramlining in check, although it's a shame you had to downsize the tyres. What I like about the 7" rims is that the 225's give the rims lots of protection against gutter rash.

I can post a pic up very soon - just got an 09 Euro Lux Navi with front aero bumper and sports grille and looks very nice in black.

The sports grille is painted to match the body colour of your Euro which makes it even nicer! I wasn't expecting this.

Hey denot, no I just decided to get the sports grille and front aero bumper that's it as I think the rest of the car doesn't really need further bodykits as in the other pics I've seen it may make the car look "overdone" with bodykits if you know what I mean.

The body coloured grille esp in black totally changes the look of the car - trust me, may not work so well in other color I think it works out very well in black.

Sorry to hear your car's full of swirl marks - did you get black as well? Mine's mirror shiny so shiny it's reflecting everything!

Oh that is garbage. Swirl marks probably means some bunny just 'washed' it with a dirty gritty chamois or sponge that they washed everyone else's grotty cars with. That's a low blow, trying to say it's your fault for not buying paint protection... If the car is washed properly with care, it should not scratch it, paint protection or no. I'd kick up a stink about that, and make them pay for the paint correction.

My black CL9 car has no paint protection, and the service manager made an unsolicited remark when it was last through for a service that it was the best condition Euro he'd seen... Then again, I don't let the dealer wash it... :thumbdwn:

CL9 Euro gets 7.3L/100 open road, 9.2 around city.

Yeah it sucks, part of the problem when owning a black car. My CU2 has pleanty of swirl marks which I've yet to address. Never get the dealer to wash or vac your car.

At first I thought I should start my own thread to warn potential car owners here against paint protection, but coming into here and seeing some talk about it already makes me sick and that I should just say it here.

I own a 2008 CU2 black pearl Euro lux which I purchased in mid Jaunary 2009, and at the time of purchase I was talked into paying $695 (discounted) for paint protection. My Euro was purchased from Northside Honda in Nundah, Brisbane and the company that did the paint protection was called Six Star Solutions. After 2 months having the black Euro, I have started to find at least 5-10 spots all over the bonnet, roof and boot which are white in colour, dull and matte surfaced. At the start I couldnt figure what on earth caused those, but left it alone thinking that some good polish and wax would remove them. Never got on to do them though. Then as they became to be more in numbers, I got worried and took them to a paint protection workshop up in Toowoomba for assessment as per Six Star Solution's advice. The verdict then was that there was obvious defects in the factory paint and that it would be a Honda warranty issue, not failure of the paint protection. Also in the same breath, they said that it is likely the damage is caused by some caustic/acidic drops which they wont warrant against anyway since it's not environmentally-caused.

Next I took my Euro in to the local Honda service and parts workshop, demanding for a warranty claim. The manager himself looked at it, and without much hesitation said that those damages on my cars top surfaces are caused by FRUIT BAT DROPPINGS which is a common finding in Toowoomba. The bat poo are extremely acidic from the stomach acidity and the fruit acidity, and apparently it is a common issue up here. The white spots are the aftermath of acidic poo eating through the clear coat, paint and basically leaving behind the layer before raw metal. There were also little blebs seen all over (ie small raised areas of paint) which are the starting signs of paint breakdown due to exposure to bat poo. Anyway to convince me, he took me to a Honda authorised paint and body workshop down the road, and the boss himself was convinced that those damages were caused by fruit bat droppings and not a defect in the factory paintjob. And further checks with local residents and colleagues here proved that they were right indeed...

When I checked the warranty statement by good ol Six Star Solutions, bat droppings are among those environmental agents that they said they are confident in protecting against! So the verdict is the paint protection has done NOTHING to protect against this damage. Rang the pretty blonde who sold me the paint protection to tell her my findings, she obviously wasnt too convinced to hear what I told her but said she will talk to her manager and get back to me. Still waiting for her call back though. And believe me I WILL bring this up to Honda Australia and the media if they try to dishonour their warranty. Now I will have to get the bonnet, roof and boot re-sprayed and paid for by insurance, if that idiot Six Star Solution deny me the warranty.

So if any of you are thinking of spending $695 or whatever the 'discounted' price to get paint protection which relieves you the burden of waxing and polishing for the lifetime of the car, AND protecting against bat poo/bird poo/tree sap, I am a living testimony that it DOES NOT WORK!!!

Sorry to hear about that avantgarde84.

That's just the problem with paint protection - it might buy a bit of time if bird or bat droppings get onto the paint, but you still have to address droppings immediately to avoid possibility of permanent damage. But paint protection schemes are marketed as some sort of magic impregnible barrier that will stop all of this. Which they don't. It's snake oil marketing, preying on the emotions of new car buyers wanting to protect their investment.

And body shops will recommend that you don't put sealants or polishes on new car paint, since paint continues to cure for a few months after it is done.

hey avantgarde84, I read a fine print on the terms n conditions of the paint protection Honda offered me, it says the warranty is valid as long as the enviromental agent caused (bird/bat poo) was removed imidiately after it fell on the car. If its dropped at night and then you found it in the morning, the warranty is already void. Thats why I never trust paint protection from dealer.

regarding why I let my car washed by the dealer is becoz I forgot that they will do that :( never service my car in dealer anyway, 1st time with my FD2 they say the car is currently washed, but came out dirty and no diff from the time I took in. 2nd service, they left a cooking knife on the passanger seat (probably a body in the boot as well). And now, they left swril marks... bleh!!!!

Well I question the paint protection idiots with what's the definition of immediately??? Within 5 minutes? within 1 hour? It's still ambiguous. In my case, I used to park my car in the open air hospital car park (before I got my undercover lot) at around 7am, and go home around 5pm. According to the paint shop boss and the Honda manager, those bats and birds with acidic poo usually come out before dusk, say around 4pm? I used to remember getting hit by these poo when I go back around 5pm, but I do clean them off by night just because they make the car look ugly. Anyway, I am not really expecting those paint protection idiots to do anything warranty wise, like you said they will just come up with lame ass arguments. I can bet with you with my last dollar I will bring this issue up with Honda Australia at least.

To clean off the oil mark I will just use the normal car wash solution and rub it gently off with a chamois. I'm not expecting the stain to have stayed permanently in the paint, or else Honda should repair it for you FOC since the car was in their hands when it happened.

Btw just to share with you guys, I was reading through the Policy Disclosure Statement of my Allianz comprehensive cover and apparently if the car was 'damaged while parked', you dont have to pay any excess, not even the basic excess. But then again the definition of 'while parked' can be quite debatable. Not sure if bat droppings on the car while being parked outdoors count, or does the car have to be run over by a tractor while parked to be eligible for the claim. Interesting finding though! Looking forwards to a re-spray without having to pay any excess.

So if I said I usually park my car in my house covered garage by reverse park, then if I park my car in the open air car park in Coles or if I forward park instead or reverse park, and get my car somehow damaged, I wont be covered? Anyway, called Allianz and apparently I still gotta pay the basic excess anyway since there is no one that they can claim that money from.

Guys,

Have an auto CU2 with 3000k's on the clock (car was purchased in January). As of last week I noticed a metallic tapping/rattle sound coming from the rear of the car. I put the rear seats down and the sound is definitely coming from within the boot area as it is *very* loud traveling with the seats down (and coming from the drivers side I believe).

My question is, am I able to call a Honda service center about this and get it looked at? It's not a subtle rattle and really quite annoying. I think I may have read somewhere else on this forum that Honda only warranties rattles in the first 1000k's? Anyone had experience in this?

Yeah, that's the problem. Oynx tint is $290 for the whole car but has metallic content. The other tint I can get costs $350 but I think it has a chromish finish which I'm not sure about.

Just wondering if anyone has tinted with tint that has a metallic content?

If you tint through Honda what are you getting? (I know it's through a 3rd party but interested to know)

The other thing to be aware of with some tints is that they can block the IR signal of your garage door remote control. This can be a nuisance if you have to lower your window each time you want to open and close your garage door.

Tinting through Honda is a waste of time since they all use the same third party tinter anyway. My local Honda dealer where I bought my 09 Euro from uses Tint-a-Car.

Their answer is on a the Luxury Navi model - they'll use Bolle tint (dye based) for rear windscreen then you're free to use either F1 or Unbreakable (security) tint on the other windows.

This is to prevent the metallic tint of F1 & Unbreakable from interfering with the GPS signal. I have also been told that mixing two kinds of tint won't be noticeable.

I'm still thinking about this and considering also that dye based tint do discolour after a few years.

Anyone has any tinting experience with their CU2 Luxury Navi?

No. In the humid heat of the tropics, tinting eventually peels. This is a failure that affects clear vision through the rear window. And getting tinting off the rear window without damaging the flat wires (demister/radio antenna) on the window inner surface is not practical and therefore unserviceable.

This is not a problem on the Euro Luxury where it has auto dimming rear view mirror. At the moment I'm still debatable whether to get my brand new Euro tinted as I don't really feel like people opening up the doors etc to tint!
