View Full Version : k24 bottom end on k20a EP3
Hi everyone, Im planning to put a k24 bottom end on my ep3. I was just wondering what sort of power difference would this bring compared to my k20 bottom end?
And also would a stock k24 bottom end be good enough for extra power? Or would it have to be worked.
Any information would be great
Cheers

if its going to be stock, u might aswell leave it how it is

Yeh but you have to consider the compression ratio it gives out mixing the 2.
The ep3 k20 is i think the most powerful K series in any Oz imported honda.
(fd2r or mugen rr, cant be imported or hasnt yet, so yeh they dont count.)
It might have more torque, but it wont have more power.
Unless you change the pistons, so the k24 is making the same compression as the k20. Then youll have something.
Leave it as it is.
IMO. How bout start off with a good ecu. Like Hondata Kpro?
Big differences with just a change of ecu.

Yeah why not...2.4L >2.0L. I think there are some floating around with that combo. It might make the same peak power as the k20 but the midrange you'll pick up considerable power. You'll need I/H/E ECU and tune to make it all work well.

ask yonas (EG5) he is running that setup i think, dunno if he has changed the bottom end of the k24 though, try buying the k24 crank and h rods and k20 pistons and put them into your k20 bottom end, you dont have to engineer it then
sweet thanks guys.. I might just consider getting a kpro or k100 first, and see what happens from there..

I think yonas is running stock k24 with Kpro and dc5R gearbox.
Nothing else.

Yups and that thing hammers lolz..
Im sure a stock k24 bottom should benefit in some way or another

To run the K20/24 frank, you'll need at least;
1) Kpro ECU
2) Headers
3) Large exhaust (2.75 - 3")
4) Intake
Other things to think about would be, upgrade of clutch whilst the engine is out and engine mounts.
A stock K20A can make around 150kwatw give or take with bolt on parts!

Since you have a JDM k20, i would not bother changing to a stock k24 bottom end for reasons stated above about compression. If you're changing rods and pistons, that's another story.
8200 rpm on stock k24a3 bottom end here , will push it to 8500 rpm soon
BC cams , valve springs , retainers.
K24A will produce more torque for sure compared to k20a
But JDM K20A is a good motor already

i dunno about the ep3's, but i know with the dc5's you'll experience header clearing issues even with the ep3's swaybar...

yeah, what he said. i wouldnt bother doing the bottem end swap. Your K20 has heaps of potential. the money u put into getting the frank k24 done would be well of a waste, when u can put all that money into your k20 and you'll get some pretty decent power.
GL with your build.

depends its a win lose situation.. stock for stock
k24 = torque with no revs
k20 = less torque with all revs
no point unless building crazy allmotor styles
