Hello,

I'm looking to buy a DC2R soon, but some people out there make VTI-R into looking like a DC2R with the Type R stickers, Recaros etc... Is there anyway to spot the difference and tell if its a VTI-R or the Real Type R?

Thanks,

Kevin

the vin and engine numbers on the rego sticker should tell it.

1) The most common way to identify the car is to look at the engine block number that is physically marked on the engine block as below:

You should see B18C7 for AUDM and B18C for JDM and B18C2 for VTi-R

2) Look out for the PCD of the type R that you are going to look at.
VTi-R: 4x100 PCD
96 Spec Type-R has 4 x 114.3
98 Spec Type-R has 5 x 114.3

3) Interior:
Recaro SR3
Type-R rear Seat black with red stitches
Carbon Fibre Dash
Type-R Cluster
Type-R MOMO Steering Wheel

4) Check out for Type-R LCA

5) Look out for the placement of the ABS in engine bay. Both type-R and VTi-R are placed differently.

If the current owner managed to change the above from VTi-R to Type-R, then perhaps you should give him the credit for putting in so much effort and money to do all this.

I hope all this helps

The VIN number should start with JHMDC231............ if I got the VIN coding correct.

VTIR should have JHMDC238...............

VTiR has moulds, type R doesnt :D

Moulds can easily be shaved.

As above, the only definate ways to tell (that can't be changed) are VIN plate, stamp on the engine block, and ask to see the rego papers (rego papers will say "Integra VTI-R".

95% of the DC2R's out there don't have sunroofs..

all AUDM VTIR's came with sunroofs..

that'll give you a fair indication of whether it's a dc2r or not.

This only true of pre facelift VTi-R, '98+ ABS is same Type R
