It depends on which year is your Headlamps. If your JDM front comes from 98 Spec then you should have that black box which is the ballast of the HID. This is because 98 Spec JDM DC2R headlamps are manufactured with HID.
96 Spec JDM DC2R is using normal HB4 globe headlamps.

Your HID is not the OEM that comes with the headlamp. It's an aftermarket HID. ie: 96 spec headlamp. :)
Your HID Ballast should be similar to this

Cheers.

riight i will have to confrim that.. coz im sure mine dosnt have either of those 2 ballasts, i deffently know that the black box isnt there coz i do know that mine is 98jdm.
am i missing something that i need? coz like ive said above that my lights are yellow.. would that be the cause? because that black ballast is not there? thanks again for the replies

i thought the black box generates higher voltage of power to actualy get the HID to work but let me no , i may be able to supply lights even a complent front end its about time i emptyed out my garage

If you don't have the so call black box then you do not have HIDs. ie: You are just using normal HB4 globes.

if your lights are "yellow" in colour then your using HB4 globes also your lights will not be sutted to HID's and you will not get a clean cut off if you just put a hid kit on it.....

no offense. I don't think your head lamps is 98+ JDM Headlamps. It is most likely 96+.

my deffently dosnt have the black box...
is there a code on the 98 jdm and the 96 jdm that i can 100% tell..
thats a good question tho.. im not sure weather it is 96 or 98.

so im asking if there is a code on the headlight, and by looking at the back of my lights.. it seemed like there was no place for that box to bolt onto?

Mate, I'm 99.9% sure that it's 96 spec headlights. Think I've told you earlier when I did the explaination.

i-jrdm, I think you may have a standard 96 spec highlights with black housing.
The 98 spec HID head lights also have a round circle on the front plastic cover.

Take a look at this youtube clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASCU9n5N6yI
The round circle is noticeable around 0.22 seconds.
