Hi Guys

Just bought some second hand 17" 5zigen Inperio M-05. The guy I bought them off of also has a new set of stickers for them.

http://www.ryanhalls.com/ozhonda/12_inperio_m-05.jpg

They go in for a powder coating next week - leaning towards a nice darkish gold pearl at the moment, although gunmetal and bronze are still in the race. :D

nice wheels man, they look very similar to vtecinaccords wheels!! ( thin spoke design)

personally, i like phat spokes on accords cos they are phat looking cars to start with!!

Did you get them for a good price? They will look good with the red paintjob.

Thanks for the comments - I hope to have some photochopped pics soon. Just want to have a look at some different color options, you guys might as well see them too!! :p

It's labour day weekend over here so the wheels won't arrive until wednesday - then the powder coating shop has them for 1 week.

Anyone know what the wheels retail at, even in OZ? I could only find the price in Yen - about $450 NZ each? Is this about right new? I've emailed someone about them but no reply yet.

The way things are going, dark/bronze wheels are becoming the norm

I'm not personally into the 'JDM yO' look, But i'm sure it'll look good.

Any pics? I had a quick look and couldn't find any. These are the only pics I have found so far of the m-05's on hondas.

Yeah....I know man!!!:D

I have a question - for those with 17's, what size tyre are you running?

I'm thinking a 215/45 might suit me - will make for a slightly softer ride opposed to the 40 series.

Thoughts?

Remembering that this is still a "family" car that has a well used car seat in the back!

Haha... just ignore me... i'm hoping that if i say it enough you will change your mind :P

I think the correct profile is 45. I have 40s and my speedo is 4% fast. The guys at Tempe Tyres were telling me i was an idiot when i asked for 40s :)

Ok - time for a newb question. I've searched - believe me - I hate asking newb questions! :o

My old tyres/wheels were 195/60/15 which gave me:

Sidewall - 4.6in
Diameter - 24.2in

New tyres would be 215/45/17 which would give me:

Sidewall - 3.8in
Diameter - 24.6in

This would have the effect of reducing the wheel arch gap by .4 inches, correct?

Whereas a 205/45/17 tyre will be closer to factory specs and have a diameter of 24.3.

Is the gap thing right?

you are right, it depends on tyre pressures as well. In all, stuff all difference. 215's will give you better traction, 205's will give you better responce. But in all, stuff all difference! Your speedo might be out but this would be very minimal. Nothing to worry about.

Update:

Wheels arrived today (a few days late - they came from the north island) - and in better condition than I thought they would be in. They could actual go in the car if they weren't being painted.

They are now in the hands of the powdercoater who is excited to be doing these.

They are being done in gold, if you look closely at the centre cap it has a purple letter "i" and some fake rivots - the centre cap will be gold and the letter i and rivots will be red to match the car.

Can't wait for them to be on the car!

Oh yeah I found out how much they are new - $650 each just for the rims!!

LOL - update #2!

Wheels are NOT being done in gold. But I've gone for BRONZE! I've had a few days to think about it while they were away being blasted.

Wasn't happy with the final shade of gold that was provided, would have either looked hot or like shit, so I decided to not take the chance. :p

However with the bronze, if the light is very bright it looks a bit gunmetalish, in bad light they look almost black. If people think they are black they will still be cool, if they think they are bronze they will still be cool, if they think they are gunmetal they will still be cool. I feel I'm in a win/win/win situation! :D

Sorry Dom - in no instance or light will they look white! :p

Haha... thats cool... Bronze/gunmetal/black wheels are the 'new black' now anyway (hmmm... that phrase seems to work better with fashion!).

Are you going all the way, and getting a CF bonnet too?

Thanks Dom!

Nah no CF bonnet - I'm not sure if I would be able to do any more mods after the wheels. Wife has had about enough. I'm thinking of getting the skirts color coded but I'll have to wait and see. I'm so whipped! :p

Funny thing though, my wife asked me how much I paid for the wheels the other day, when I told her she kinda got shitty - I was like - "I told you at LEAST 5 times previous and you never said a word - even before I bought them!?" "NOW you pay attention!?"

The wheels were VERY cheap considering they cost about $2600 for a set new - and they were in excellent condition.

UPDATE #1000

Picked up the wheels today and had them installed. I'll have pics tommorrow of them on the car, I ran out of time today. They look mint!!!!

Here's a couple pics of them in my hallway. They look slightly grey from the crappy camera but they are a nice deep bronze pearl!!

Damn.....that looks sweet man! nice and shiny too!

Did you get them powder coated? i remember reading this thread but am too lazy to go back and read it all....how much was it may i ask?

razaman
18-11-2004, 07:18 PM
Yeah they are powder coated a bronze pearl. The centre caps are not done yet, we are waiting for a custom can of matching spray paint to arrive as they are plastic.

I believe I was quoted $250 for everything. This included the prep as well - they look brand new - all the rash was filed out, they were sandblasted and everything.

Pics don't do them justice - I have a better camera for the shots tommorrow. I've already a few looks today.

wicked....was there a large range of colours to choose from man?
iv heard theres a limited amount of colour when getting wheels powder coated.

iv always loved the series 1 5th gen accord........maybe thats why my lude had some bits and pieces of the accord on it. hehe

Well done and nice wheel choice.

They had about three or four sample boards of all different colors, well over 100 colors. There were all the "normal" colors like red/blue/yellow but they had 3 or 4 shades of gold, they also did a custom gold pearl that ended up looking like shit. They had all sorts of greys, a couple bronze, different shades of silver etc

The only thing I don't think you can get are the hyper silvers, hyper blacks, stuff like that.

I think it helped that the powder coater was a car man - he knew what I was going for and had done lots or rims prior. He reckons they will stand up to abuse better than the original wheel finish.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Car is done for a good long while now. Love to have the rest of the black color coded. I wish you guys would stop mentioning it though, it makes it stand out more!! :(

I picked up the tyres second hand, although you wouldn't know looking at them. Federal 215/45 SS-595. Bit on the noisy side though - then I found out they were the most expensive high performance tyre that federal makes in NZ. Picked them up for about $80 each - they retail new at $245 each!

Anyone else notice more road noise going to a lower profile tyre? The thin spokes probably don't help either coming from the factory 5th gen 7 spoke.
