Hi guys,

I've seen a thread regarding Wheel for CU2 but decide to open my own for this noob (perhaps) question:

Basically I want to swap my OEM wheels (17x7.5 with 225/50/17 98V) with my Works XT7 (18x7.5).

on my XT7 I've still got a practically new tyres (only done less than 500kms) which size are 225/40/18 92W.

Now the question is... should I use the XT7 with the existing tyres? should I use XT7 with different tyres (OEM for 18x8 is 235/45/18 - but it will buldge out a bit on the XT7 I suppose)? Should I sell the XT7 and the tyres, and then find a diff wheels later?

Some aspect that I want to point out is that safety issue is important for me coz baby is on the way and my wife is 8 mnths pregnant atm...

So all input will be appreciated guys...

thanks for the help...

Your tyres on the XT7's are actually pretty close to the stock 17" tyre size.
I'd use them then change to a 225/45R18 later on.

This size should be pretty cheap, as lots of cars use 225/45R18 OEM, like Mazda RX8 and Holden Vectra etc.
Can get Bridgestone Adrenalin Potenza RE001's in this size too!!!

^^^ thanks Type R, but what about the Load Rate? any safety/legal issue involved? there's no load rate 98 for 225 tyres I was told...

Not sure on legals and such mate.
The RE001's are 95 load and W speed rating.

Hey Denot, what does the placard say for the minimum load rating?
You're legally not allowed to go below this number.

Your 225/40R18 tyres will technically be illegal on the CU2 by -4mm in diameter.

"Overall Diameter
The overall diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than
15mm larger than the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the
vehicle and not more than 15mm smaller than the smallest diameter wheel and tyre
combination specified for the vehicle.
Tyre Load Rating
Any replacement tyre must have a load rating equal to or better than the minimum
load rating stated by the vehicle manufacturer on the tyre placard. This can be stated
on the tyre placard as either a load index or as the load per axle."

Stick with the shock wheels for now and sell your XT7's.

You'll have pleanty of expenses when the bub comes!

Great Thread, Ive been reseraching and dont know what exact dimensions and offset people have experiemented with.
Any advice would be good (e.g. with offset and other dimensions)

Thanks for advice guys... the thing is... i'm not suppose to say stick with stock... its either a, b or sell XT7 and find something else (18x8) so still saving is not an option on this poll joystick mate :p

Denot, the load rating is below recommended, so if anything happen down the track you could be in a world of shit. My suggestion is sell what you have and get the correct tyres.

Yeah i agree, best to do it by the book as your wife will be driving the car with a baby and so on.You don't want to have any legal or insurance issues if you or she has an accident.

I have just checked Denot, the minimum load rating for the CU2 is 98V, so if you go below that figure the tyres will not conform with manufacturer specifications. Therefore there is no way i would fit the tyres you have to your CU2.

^^^ ye buddah, but the problem is.. if I still insist to go with the XT7 with 235/45/18 98W (like the OEM lux) the tyre will bludge out a bit from the rims, right? will this still legal? any safety issues?

The recommended rim width for 235 section tyres is 8" to 8.5", However the specifications say minimum rim width is 7.5", maximum rim width is 9". My guess is 235/45 may be a little baggy on 7 1/2 inch rims so i would compensate by a slight increase in pressure.....say 36 to 38 psi. It is a pity you didn't go to 8" to 8.5" rim width, then it would be perfect.

ya buddah... I was unlucy to just bought the XT7 for my FD2 before... bu when you have a car that has been in and out Smash repair for 5 times in less than 3 years (not to mention the last 2 was in 3 months period), I think its about time to sell it right? that's why its hard for me to sell the XT7...

Ok, so if I go with 235/45/18 and use 36/38psi preasure, it should be ok?

that would be my suggestion, or try to sell your tyres and rims as a combination & start over so you get the right sizes.

I am hoping to go with a set of 19 x 8.5 eventually, weather it happens or not is another story.

I think I have posted this before, but here we go.

Factory offset is +55, anything under +45 is pushing the limits and may be illegal (In NSW you can not change the track by more than 25mm). I have been running +45 offset (18x8 with 235/45) for a few weeks now and I have had no issues with clearance or rubbing. I actually think the 20mm wider track looks better.

It is difficult though to find a wheel with the right x factor (dish shape) to clear the front brake calipers. I tried a lot of wheels before I found mine including a few that retailers assured me would fit until they tried them and got a shock when they fouled the front brakes.

I would Definitely not buy any wheels for this car without a test fit.
